Questions about steelies
I'm in the market for some used steelies that I can paint black, and then mount some factory Chevy caps.
Based off the picture below of my sidewall, could you tell me what size I would need so I can mount these same tires to steelies? I'm thinking I'll check the junk yard for what I need, and then I'll paint them. Seems like some guys use ford wheels. Please let me know what options I have. http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps90019ec2.jpg These are the wheels I currently have. They are newer Chevrolet wheels. What do you figure I might get for these if I tried to sell them? http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r...1d54bacb52.jpg As far as factory Chevy caps for steelies, are there certain years and styles that will and will not work? I've seen guys run all silver caps, and I've also seen the more traditional silver with black paint and blue or yellow chevy logo in the center. Thanks! Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Questions about steelies
16x7 or 16x6.5 will work with those size tires.

Re: Questions about steelies
And hubcaps like what I have (69-75 vintage) have to measure 12" across the back.

Re: Questions about steelies
Any hubcap from an outer nub 8-lug wheel will fit. For GM Trucks there are only two designs,69-75 and 76-91. 6-lug and 5-lug wheels use the same cap which is different from 8-lug. The GM 6 x 16 rims offered through '91 are pretty common. The late SAE Ford 7 x 16 Accurides are popular,as you've seen.

Re: Questions about steelies
I have the same eary 2000's wheels on my 69. I picked up a couple of steel rims from the barter section of craigslist yesterday. Plan on using one for a spare. They seem pretty plentiful on CL

Re: Questions about steelies
Yeah,I never measured a hubcap before because there's no need. They are obviously different sizes. Car hubcaps fit 1/2t trucks and vice-versa. Not 100% sure about some Mopar cars. But with 8-lug trucks they all swap. That's how guys can run the Ford wheels on Chevy/GMCs with correct caps. There once was a time when life was simpler (...better and cheaper!)

Re: Questions about steelies
I found these at the yard today on a ford. Would these work with my tires? One of them was on the ground. I looked on the back, but couldn't see anything indicating a size. They're $5.99 each.
