6.2 Litre LSA Supercharged swap

Anyone do this swap yet ?

I just finished a LS2 swap into my 58 and am really happy with it ....

So now I have a 1966 short box "project low and go" as I call it and just purchased the Factory Superchared LSA 6.2 Litre backed with a 6 speed automatic set up that I am freeing from the engine compartment as we speak. It's not all out yet but am taking my time to make sure that I don't damage anything I am going to need. I couldn't find much info on the ins and outs of the swap and thought I would see if anyone has messed with them and has any pointers......Thanks

Sounds like a good swap, but considering that I haven't seen anyone do it yet (and Vancouver BC is my favorite place on the planet) you should have me come out to aid in the swap....better safe than sorry.

Hartrod is in the process of doing the swap. He is still gathering parts and info. His build would be a good place to start. Just look up Hartrod in the build section.

I have a 6.0 and 6 speed to do a swap, but I haven't started yet. I'm still gathering parts too.

Please share any info you figure out with the rest of us.

Hartrod is using Dirtydingo mounts and I am going to try ECE mounts. I bought Doug Thorley headers and I think we are both going to use Cadillac CTS-V oil pans.

I haven't decided who to use for wireing harness but am thinking Speartec. Rob has visited with them about the harness. Rob also found steering mount shifter setup to use. I think he is going to use a Dakata Digital dash.

Like I said, please post up any other info you come across.

John

Oh for sure I will ....
I will have it out by the weekend and spend sometime cleaning it up.....I think my buddy will repin the harness....I have a porterbuilt front end in my 66 and the LS mounts are already in the clip. I plan on using a paddle shift set up as well....I might go with the caddy gauge set up mounted into my cluster not sure. I went dakota's in my 58 swap and they are awesome ad I love them. Thanks and i will search his build out thanks

I'm jealous. I wish I could have afforded the LSA motor when I did my swap. For the 6-speed auto, you will definitely need the high hump trans tunnel. When I did my LY/6L90 swap, I did not have to cut anything. I made my own motor mount adapter plates. I had Speartech take care of modifying the wiring for me. One thing to look out for is a check engine light related to the transmission. It is code P2534. It was a code I couldn't get rid of and I know of another person that had it also. I ended up using EFILive and had it ignore the code. The code says that the transmission lost ignition voltage. It has something to do with the TCM shutting down before the PCM when turning off the truck. The TCM and PCM need to shut down at the same time. The fix the other person did was install a relay that is powered by the ECM to keep power to the TCM as the car is shutoff. The ECM does not shutoff right away when turning the car off. This is a hit or miss problem so it's just something to look out for when you do the swap. Have fun with the swap.

If you want to see more details on the trouble code and solution you can go to this link. The last post has a link to the fix.

Hey thanks alot........thats great advice and help . I am not sure how the transmission is going to fit in.....My chassis lays frame and i didn't think even with a high tunnel it would clear.....now i am excited that it might. Do you have a build thread ?

Re: 6.2 Litre LSA Supercharged swap

Unfortunately I don't have a build thread. If you are laying frame, the high hump may not be enough. The pan on a 6L90 hangs low unless you have a 6L80 transmission. If that's the case I think the pan from a Pontiac g8 may help. I have not found an aftermarket pan yet that is shallower for a 6L90. Are you using a drop member? If so, I think you'll have tunnel issues because, if I'm not mistaken, the engine and transmission go up to clear steering components. Something you will need to plan for if that is the case.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that engine/trans combo won't fit into a 1966..... anything. You're a LONG way from me, but since I'm a nice guy, I'm willing to drive up and take that off your hands.

So what's the story on the car it came out of? Too much power for someone to handle, couldn't keep the shiny side up? Got any pics of the car?

The March issue of Super Chevy cover story is a step by step LSA swap into a Chevelle, FYI

Thanks...
I plan on taking a more serious look at the floor and how it's going to work out this week...I had a feeling the floor was going to need to be cut out and boxed over. I just switched over to a steel box floor and built a box under the front section for all my air and fuel tank....now if that transmission is higher and the centerline of the tailshaft is higher.....it's refab time all over again for the box because if the driveshaft is up a couple of inches it's going to hit everything.........

Thats the thing with trucks guy's ......so many nice guy's willing to help a guy out....lol.
-Ya the car was pounded...it only had 15,000 Km on it. Took a serious hit on the drivers side front end and spun it around. The trunk lid and tail lights are mint, the rest not so much. The interior is all there and mint and it had some killer options, 15" disc brakes with the big 6 piston calipers....The 14 function recaro leather bucket seats....

Can I assume the LSA came from a CTS-V. If so, with all that go, might as well put all that whoa power in as well from the car. I made a pair fit on my C10, just converted to 5 lug when I did it. You can kinda see what I did in post 5

Dude your dangerous.......I think we are going to be friends.....lmao...
Ya it's a CTS-V with the 15" disc brake option......if I wasn't so far along into this build I would have looked at swaping out the rear end....

LOL! Your not the first one to tell me that. Just a FYI, you don't need to change the rear end to bolt the rear brakes on. Just saying. ;)

Ya i know.....but the rear end has to be worth 5 grand complete i am guessing.....and when the time comes I am going to need to get rid of some inventory...those calipers are 800 a piece new alone ....but ya never know it's early on in the build at this point now and anything is possible now

Re: 6.2 Litre LSA Supercharged swap

Well had some set backs yesturday............. nothing that can't be fixed
The LS mounts fit but they hit the AC Pump and had to be altered.....The AC hits the frame....the altenator hits the frame. The Trailblazers LS2's have everything mounted up high the LSA has everything mounted down low so it's a tight squeeze . The supercharger clears the firewall and when the harness is cut down I think the harness will fit back there as well....

Take a look at Holley's LS accessory brackets. They raise everything up and look factory.
