What do you guys think?

Here is a plan for my engine buildup. It looks like it will be a solid and not to costly setup to go with.
355 c.i.d.

Vortec heads with 2.00/1.60 valves

9.4 CR

750 cfm edelbrock carb.

Dual-Plane intake manifold

Flowtech Afterburner Headers

and a Comp Cams 268XE hydralic cam

TCI TH700R4

Posi and 3.42 gears.

gldevall 06-14-2003 01:24 PM

Why Vortec heads? Why not some Edelbrock RPM's or Trick flow or some aftermarket?

messed up c-10 06-14-2003 01:39 PM

they are considerably cheaper and should get a little better gas mileage.

You're worried about gas mileage and planning on a Eddy 750 carb, TH400 and 3.73 gears, not to mention the XE268 cam??

Can we say, "goodbye gas mileage"?

messed up c-10 06-14-2003 04:52 PM

No after going over to the Engine and drivetrain forum I'm going to go with a 700R4 instead of the TH-400. 3.42 not 3.73. :D And the cam... well the engine will get better mileage than it does now with the 305.

swervin ervin 06-14-2003 08:00 PM

Well, now we are talking. :)

If you are going with a 700R4, stick with 3.73's. This is my combo and it works great. I also have the Compcams XE268 and love it.

I don't think you will gain much by installing larger valves in the vortecs, unless you are referring to the fast burn heads.

No trust me, he knows whats up with vortec heads. I gave him like two pages of stuff including a full write up by gary at GMPP on the 2 year study GM did with tons of sets of vortecs. Besides, stock vortecs flow better then edelbrock performer or RPM heads.

I agree with mike, keep the 3.73's with the 700R4. This is a great combo. It will take 87 octane all day long.

So are the Fastburn heads better....same design only bigger?

In fact....how can I look at the info on the vortecs?

Do you think you could go with a smaller carb and get better mileage?? You could get away with a 600 and lose only a few hp but save alot of gas there! Just my .02 thats worth what you paid for it!!

Check your PM box.

Thanks for the info, C-10

sharing all my vortec info huh? I see how it is....

LOL j/k

Fastburns are better heads if you need them. But they have a 210cc intake port. Thats huge for a mild 350. If you can get the airflow you need to make the power your looking for using a smaller intake port like the vortecs 170cc, then you will be MUCH happier with the motor.
