Fan Shrouds

I personally may need this info, but couldn't find it anywhere, so it should help anyone looking for it in the future.

What are the differences in the a/c vs non a/c shrouds for the 81-91 350's? LMC says that the bottom is the same, but the top is different. Classic industries lists the top and bottom different for a/c vs non.

Also, is there any difference in the shrouds in 4x4 vs 4x2 versions? I read at one point that there was, but can't find it now. It supposedly had something to do with the engine being mounted further back in the 4x4's.

The top versions for A/C account for refrigerant hoses. GM ran the A/C coolant lines over the radiator. Later, GM ran them over the engine.

I agree with gchemist. The only difference I've ever noticed was the ac lines mounted to the top of the upper shroud. But they are the same size. The only difference in the fans are the clutch (standard duty or heavy duty).

So since I am going to run a Vintage Air system, and not route the AC lines over the radiator, then either shroud should work for me, correct?

Sorry for the hijack...

No worry bout the hijack...I was actually going to post the same question. Since in my case, the a/c compressor is on the right side of the engine, and the a/c lines don't run all over the place, the shroud type shouldn't matter?

I don't know but what about single piece fan shrouds? I put my 77's in last night and it was the worst fit ever. The clips that hold it to the core support on the bottom were about an inch to high (the shroud wasn't long enough) so I was wondering if maybe it came off of another vehicle.

Re: Fan Shrouds

Ok, so after some extensive research, the difference in the aftermarket(OE might be different) is that the non-ac top shrouds sit lower, and use a bracket that attaches to the back of the core support, whereas the top ac shroud sits higher, and uses the bracket the goes over, and attaches to the top of the core support. Also, the non-ac top shroud is meant for the short 17" radiator.
