Question for the Frame-off resto guys!!
 

So I'm getting ready to take the cab off the truck so I can paint the frame. However, I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to do with it while it's off. Granted, its not in the greatest condition as of now, but I'm not really crazy about just putting it on the ground. Has anybody built some kind of stand to put it on in the meantime? Also figured it would be a little easier to pick up and put down if it was a little ways off the ground. Thanks all!!

I set mine on two creepers so I could easily move it around.

I made a simple platform with wheels, ran me 40 bucks.

Oh nice!! I was wondering if a wooden stand would be strong enough for it. Obviously it is! Thanks for the pics guys!

I put mine on a wooden stand and used 2X6 boards with casters. I then used 6 inches of 4X4 at the cab mount points and bolted the cab to the frame through the cab mount holes. I am doing a fair amount of floor replacement so wanted to tie the cab down to the frame.

I built my table from 2x4's as well. I built it tall enough where the floor was as high as my elbows or a little higher. That way it was very easy to get under it while cutting the floor up to repair it. The table also doubles as a normal workbench now. Its portable to.

Depending on the condition of the cab you might want to weld in some cross bracing for strength.

cab dolly, built from scrap...lets ya tilt the cab back and whatnot.

My cab is still in OK shape. Just the usual rocker panel rust, but the floor is pretty solid otherwise. Thanks for the tip though!

RockTonka, that cab dolly is sweet! If I knew I would be doing this a bunch of times and I had a bigger shop, that would be the way to go! Didn't realize that there was an extended cab option for our trucks either. I guess you can pretty much make anything if you know how to weld. Lol.

I bought a couple of movers dolleys at harbor freight and laid a couple 2x4's (for extra support) w/ some old carpet on them and stuck my cab on those. One on each side, under the doors. Had it that way for about a year, moved all around w/o issues and handled me crawling all around inside of it fixing metal and all that jazz.. only like $30 bucks investment :)

Heck I took a full size adjustable bed frame (yes the one some people sleep on).
Nailed some blocks of 2x4's together to help support the cab. Then I used some cheap straps to hold it down to the frame and 2x's!
The frame had cheap plastic rollers on it all ready, which worked perfect for rolling it around in the garage!
It actually stayed there until I was ready to mount it back on the frame!

When I was doing all the floor pans, rockers and cab corners i had it on t-post resting on my utility trailer

I set mine on two of those square 4 wheeled dollies from Harbor Freight, so I think I was into it $30.

i took the overkill method and built a cart by cutting up an old frame i had. used the front and back frame rails as legs and made braces out of bumper brackets.
