Does anyone know what kit number I need for a 1971 c-10 pwr steeeriing box rebuild kit? Like to get a quality kit and manufacturer. Thanks...Kirby, by the way this is going to mate to a 292 inline 6 motor.

Depends on who you ask I guess. I have done a lot of research on the rebuild and I am plenty confident enough to rebuild it myself. Some have only replaced partial seals and what not on the box and find it still leaks. From what I can see, this is caused by other seals that have failed within the box that are still causing or contributing to the leak. I took mine completely out and can see many of the O-rings and Teflon seals are brittle and hard.

I have rebuilt a transmission on my own with success and this is fairly straight forward when compared to that. Also, the worst part of the rebuild thus far, and probably will remain, is removing box from the truck.

I went with the Cardone rebuilt from O'Reilly's. Bought over 2 years ago, been trouble free, no leaks, very happy. paid around $150 I believe.
The trouble with trying to rebuild things these days, is finding the small parts individually it seems. No one carries parts just replacement units.

Any parts store can supply kits for those. They have worm seal kits & sector shaft kits plus the full kit. Check the lower brg. If this has any play at all it is multiplied many times in the steering wheel. I don't believe it comes in the kit.

That is what I was trying to say. THOSE are the parts I was referring to that can sometimes be difficult to find. I would make sure you have a GM repair/service manual that shows individual parts, then you can cross-reference to other part numbers.
