69 C10 5/7 drop
Ok guys, I've done my research and I cant figure out the rear suspension. I know i will need 2" drop spindles and 3" lowering springs in the front and out back i know i need 5" lowering spring and most likely a c-notch but i cant figure out how to get the other 2". I keep hearing about flip kits but from what I understand those are for leaf spring trucks, I have trailing arms and coil springs unless I'm missing something. Any info you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You just need 2" drop blocks and longer U bolts. It will cost you about $100 for good ones (solid billet) Going that low I'd think about pinion angle, shock relocation, and track bar. (you may have already) I would also consider a 1 piece drive shaft conversion. Do you have your notch kit yet? I'd highly suggest Porterbuilt stuff. You don't need a flip kit, since the Axle is already on tip, just blocks and longer u bolts. I have a CPP 3/4" spring drop on my 72 and it also included rear upper shock relocator brackets and adjustable track bar. I am running a later model 1 pc drivshaft as well. IMO any drop more than mine would need one of the aftermarket center cross member (where the carrier bearing was mounted). Good luck!

I have heard that although the cpp cnotch is cheaper, the welds suck. You can search the forum in this regard.

Not saying mine is the ONLY way .. but check out the flip idea / Hotchkis brackets for the front of the trailing arm mounts on my GMC build (the second link in my signature) . This will help with the pinion angle issues as well, especially if you're staying with stock trailing arms (?) They are a ***** to get off, but if you simply flip the bracket upside down it will change the angle of the rear pinion in that your truck will only 'think' it has been dropped about 3". .. when in reality you're 6-7" drop.
The Porterbuilt CNotch is incredible. I happen to have the upper shock bar I will sell you if you decide to go that route. I just ended up with an extra. |

I was thinking about going with a 4/6 drop kit and then just buying a set of 3" drop spring for the front. I found a site that sells the kit with shock relocaters and all the other stuff to get the geometry right in the rear. But so what you guys are saying is drop blocks would be the best way to go. I just had a coworker say that I could clamp the spring but after some research I found that that's not a good idea. Thanks for your help guys I'm sure ill be back with some more questions.

i think early classics is where i found the 4/6 drop kit at that has everything to correct the geometry of the rear.

Just to mention, flipping the brackets will make you loose about. 75" of your rear drop. But I think the trade off is worth it. Just a bigger drop block to offset :)

Looking for some help. I bought a 69 gmc truck and want to lower it and make it level. I know I can do drop Spindel sin the front but the back I have leaf springs do I do drop blocks? Also what's the lowest I can go with out notching the frame and keeping the same geometry
