Radio Options

Hey everyone...I have a 86 C20 that i love...but no radio is starting to get old lol so i was wondering what my options are for least cutting required? i would prefer it to be like a new single DIN style but a replacement for the old shaft style wouldn't be bad, i'm just needing some music that won't empty my wallet haha so anyone know something?

Thanks!

I've seen that one, what would it take to put a new single DIN in the original dash opening?

A saw...

Your options are cut for a DIN, or spend double for a dual shaft that fits but doesnt sound near as good.

I just cut mine this week.

I would probably go to the scrap yard and pick up a bezel so you can keep the original uncut.

What about wiring? I'm not very good with wiring as far as following a diagram but i can follow step by step and pictures...or is it pretty straight forward? this is my first time doing anything as far as electrical/wiring on a vehicle so i may feel dumb..

compare the new one to stock wire locations

Alright guys....Ordered a metra dash kit Tuesday...It got here today. and I've been working with this spare dash bezel I have, To see how hard the cuts are to make...So far I've gotten It to fit In nicely, but I had a problem, I broke the thin side of the bezel. :waah: But I'm just gonna use some gorilla glue to fix that problem! tomorrow I'm gonna try to get It put In and wire It up.

Okay, I got my dash cut and everything fits...now I'm dealing with wiring, and I'm confused on what to do...the truck had a aftermarket Pioneer 2-Shaft radio with a digital display. And the wiring harness(not sure if it's a stock one or not) that was for it is still in. So do i need to remove that one or is there possibly a adapter for it? It's a flat white and I think it's a 10 pin.

could be an adapter i've used them
but sometimes it can add to wireing issues if the old harness contacts are weak

Would you happen to know where to find an adapter for it?

Re: Radio Options

thats the old pioneer harness, the stock connector will be a big black one and probably long gone. You should be able to match up your colors on the new radio harness to what's there though.

So just cut the white adapter and use the wires that i cut from it?

I just put a Din in my 86. I wish I would have had the wiring codes that someone posted in your thread near the top. I would either cut the white harness off and match colors to the new din harness or if they don't match up color wise I would cut at the point where the Pioneer harness was spiced in and follow the wiring scematic supplied in the thread above.

Alright!! I think I know what to do now!! Looking at the wiring code Motornut posted and comparing that to where they have the Pioneer harness Spliced(2 row wiring block) I can make sense of it!! I'm gonna work on it tomorrow and hopefully get it working!! Thanks everyone!!

Re: Radio Options

Crutchfield sells a kit that will make a modern single din radio fit in the hole. Once you've waller'd it out, of course.

i'd bring it over to the ground block by the ebrake, but it should be there with the yellow.....and grey.....

Re: Radio Options

I attached to the ground block by the E-brake, but my radio still isnt working yet. I'm kinda thinking it might be the radio though. It's a used one from my bro's truck that quit running. So i'm not sure if it works or not. I'm gonna work on it some more but i'll be getting a new radio in a week or 2.
