Custom Autosound Speakers
 

Its time to change the "Harp" in my truck and I have a Sony AM/FM with a front USB and jack port so I can stuff my thumbdrive or hook to my IPad to it. For now until I get the gas tank out of the cab and install the back corner speaker brackets I need to get a better speaker in my dash. So I found that Custom Autosound has a speaker that fits in the original dash positon and has 2 tweeters from one speaker for stereo seperation. My question is, does anyone have one of these speakers in their truck and if so how happy/sad are you with the performance?

Ive got one of those, its not bad but if you want to hear the music over road and pipe noise you're going to need more speakers. I'm getting ready to do kick panel speakers in mine.

However, for the in-dash speaker it's a good choice.

Thanks for the info. All I have now is door speakers and it didn't sound to bad with jsut those but the new stereo is much better and I figured for now one of those dual tweeter speakers in the dash would work great with the door speakers.

I have Custom Autosound deck with the dash speakers your asking about, as well as the kick panel speakers. My opinion, the sound is "OK" to "Good". Surely bettern than stock, but they aren't goint to blow you away.
I agree with Midlifer that the road noise will cause you to need a raise in volume when you're going down the highway.
I then installed the underseat speakers also made by Custom Auto (set has 8inch subs and tweets). This was a big improvement, even with no additionial amp, simply running them off the deck channels.

I have these Pioneer underseat speakers hooked up to a Pioneer CD MP3 USB stereo and I'm pretty happy with them. I try to stay away from anything AutoSound.

I have the custom autosound kick panel speakers with the pioneer TS-X20 speakers under the seat and it sounds really good.

I had a custom auto sounds deck and had nothing but problems with it. I had to send it back twice for repairs, before just returning it. I would not purchase from them again.

I had there deck in my truck for a couple of weeks It sucked. From sound quaility to the ability to tune in a station.

Did you have any problems mounting your speaker? I pulled out the old mono speaker and the one Custom Autosound sent me is a lot taller. I got it lined up with the bracket and it's a good couple inches from the opening on top and hangs down into where the radio goes. Pretty sure they sent me the a/c model instead of no a/c.

I just ordered a Retrosound Hermosa radio and their better dash speaker (they have 2 models). I plan on also getting a powered subwoofer. Either the one Retrosound sells or something else.

You have pics of install? Just got a custom auto sound unit and with all the negative reviews on this site I think I will return it and get something else.....suggestions?

I put a Custom Auto Sound stereo in my 70 GMC, I had to make parts just for it to fit flush to the dash the way is should be (and the way the pictures show). I did put the dash speakers in and they are just ok. I ordered the kick panel speaker kits and was trying to make them fit correctly bud did not like the way they looked. I ended up putting box speakers under the seat. Not really a good idea either.

Anyway, the sound is just so-so. Better than a stock radio, which isn't saying much.

Not really much more that you can do without cutting up stuff to fit a real good quality stereo in there. At least a stereo that sounds as good as a newer car does these days.

If someone can recommend a real good stereo that fits correctly without cutting up a bunch of stuff and quality speakers that you don't have to add kick panels to, it would be a great add to this thread.

I made my own dash speaker panel and put Memphis gold speakers in it.

I like those under seat speakers but how do you mount them? I dont see any mounting brackets...

I think i have the same speaker you are referring, my honest opinion is its pretty tinny sounding, i think you would be better served by getting a couple smaller round speakers and make a home made bracket like yfs200p or Andy4639 did.

Here's a pic of the back of my speaker, its all the pic's i could find at the moment, the box package left a bit to be desired. there are 2 sets of speaker wires on ether side of the magnet. The mounting bracket was a bit flemzy too I had to make an additional bracket and attach the other side to the bolt extending down from the dash pad.

Mine has been in the truck now for 5 years with no issues , but quality may have dropped since the purchase of it .

I put this system in our K10.

Stereo: Retro Sound Bluetooth, Iphone USB head unit, 5x7 Retro Sound dash speaker, Alpine 8" subs w/built in amps and Alpine 4" speakers mount in mid cab corners above gas tank. (Will not use the 5x7 speaker in the dash on next build with factory air...will use their 4x10 instead) Retro Sound recommends the 5x7 for factory air, but we had to cut the crap out of to fit.

This Stereo system sounds amazingly good and was able to do it with the stock gas tank still behind the seat.

Tried to paste the pictures of it from my K10 build thread but couldn't get them to do it. They are post #59 on page 3 of the thread.

Really like this stereo system and wouldn't change a thing. Tried Auto Sound stuff in the past and was very disappointed with them.
