Stepside tailgate latches

I am going to move the chains from the stepside tailgate and am wondering what are my options to lock the tailgate in place and what is used to keep it from falling all the way down to the bumper?

Are the original chains re-located to the inside or should I use those cables or the liftgate cylinders?

Pictures or threads already on this subject would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The FAQ on this forum is great. Go to Section 2 of the FAQ and there is a whole section on getting rid of chains on the tailgates. Here is what is there:
