5 lug and 8 lug rotors

I have a 1966 C10 under construction that has later 5 on 5 disc brake rotors on the front. Does anyone know if 8 lug rotors are a direct bolton? If so, what years? If this is an easy bolton, and if I can find a late model 14 bolt rear with 8 lugs and disc brakes that is the correct width, I will make the swap. I have spotted a set of factory alloy wheels with 8 lugs that would look good on the C10. I'm not worried about cutting and welding rear end brackets, or setting the pinion angle. Anyone have experience with such a swap?

To change to the 8 lug rotors on the front, you will have to also change the spindles, lower control arms, lower ball joints, and possible the outer tie rods. What years to use are the same as for the 5 x 5 conversion. The easiest to find in my area are the '73-'87's.

Re: 5 lug and 8 lug rotors

Thanks for the info, Captainfab. I think that for now I will stick with the 5 on 5 setup, and keep my eye out for a 73-87 front cradle from a 3/4 or 1 ton with the 8 lugs, which I assume will bolt into a C10 frame. I have a set of C4 Corvette sawblades that will look nice on C10, but I will need 5 on 5 to 5 on 4 3/4 adapters, which are available on eBay. The rear is easily found in the boneyards. The rear I will use for now is a 95 Caprice 9C1 (police package) 10 bolt 5 on 5 with posi and disc brakes, which I think is very close to the correct width. I've already cut off the Caprice brackets and will weld on the aftermarket perches and track bar mount.

I'm actually looking to do this too. I have a 65, so I figured upper and lower balljoints, spindles, and tie rods. But why the LCA? I guess because there is a size difference and a c20 balljoint won't press into a c10 arm?

You're probably right on that, but I haven't a clue. Maybe Captainfab can clear this up. If he doesn't come back to this thread, you might send him a PM and ask him to comment. I will continue to look for a complete cradle that I can bolt in to the C10 frame, and that may be the better option for you, too.

I have not changed a C10 to a C20, usually the other way, but yes, the C20 lower ball joints are bigger than the C10 ball joints

Well, the reason I'm doing this is because I saw Dino's dually and fell in LOVE! Looking to do the same thing, but with 24's. still plotting now, but I've been looking up parts and figuring the best way to do it, and only have to do it once.
