1966 gmc
5 Attachment(s)
Over a year ago I started looking for a 64-66 truck. There was one in a guys back yard that had been there for a while. I placed a note in his mail box and never heard anything. I ended up buying a 64 Chevrolet and got it going. Fast forward a year later....I get a call from a guy. He said I was interested in his truck and I had left a note. I told him that I had already found one but may be interested in his for the right price. I went to look at it and found a one owner very original 1966 GMC truck. I still didn't need it so I kind of low balled him a price. He thought for a minute and took the offer.
Attachment 1074957 My buddies and I aired up the tires and put it on the trailer. Had a little drama on the way home via a broken strap. The rear strap broke, came forward enough to allow one hook of the front strap to come off. This allowed the trucks rear wheels to go all the way off the trailer. As I was slowing down the truck went back onto the trailer and rear ended my Dodge. I was amazed there was so little damage. Moral of this....use chains!! Attachment 1074955 A very small dent on my bumper... Attachment 1074956 After cleaning the mouse nests out and getiing rid of the trash... Attachment 1074958 Opened the glove box and found the original owners manual, warranty info and the protectoplate! There was also good documentation of the mileage. Attachment 1074959 It will go on the back burner for a while but I like that it is so complete I cant bring myself to part it out. |

Great looking truck. I'd be willing to bet you'll never forget the story of bringing this one home. Glad it got there in one piece. Good thing they are built tough. Did the towing truck take much damage?

Re: 1966 gmc
Nice find, great adventure. That's never happened to me, cough, cough. 69 Blazer, rear axle rolled off the trailer and smoked out the exit ramp in Pa. Safety Chains after that front and back.

Re: 1966 gmc
The towing trucks bumper was dented very little and that was it. I still dont know how I didn't screw more up that day.

Re: 1966 gmc
Love the patina! Awesome truck! Last year I pulled a 66' LWB donor truck with a U-Haul dolly from about 20 miles from home. On the last mile I came to a stop and the same thing happened to me. The wheel straps had loosened up. Luckily, the chains stopped it before hitting my truck. What was a pita was getting it back on the dolly!

Re: 1966 gmc
wow that sucks, Im just curious did the strap itself break in two or did the stitches come out at the end were it loops though the hook

Re: 1966 gmc
Something that original may very well still have the build paper in the seat. Good for you!

Re: 1966 gmc
Nice truck.
I do want a canopy (not sure what you 'Mericans call it) on my truck when I get it. I hear they are reasonably cheap to pick up. |
Re: 1966 gmc
Beautiful Score!

Re: 1966 gmc
It broke in two. I think I had it over a sharp bracket on the bumper.
