Non-Power to Power Door locks
 

Hey guys I'm not sure if this has been covered before or not, but I'm thinking of maybe going to power locks on my 77 c10, possibly even the keyless remote access lock. Has anyone tried either kit that lmc sells as that is the one I'm looking at purchasing.

I have had a set of theirs for 7-8 years now..I went without switches. When you lock one they both lock. And visa versa. Comes with two clickers.

which one did you get, as I can see there's a ton, also was the install hard?

I have to be honest..It was kind of pain..bloody knuckles. It was years ago..Looks like this one.

Okay, yeah I have nothing power at all! I don't mind keeping the windows the way they were I just wanted to do to locks to try and make my truck a little bit safer you know? I had gone back and forth a lot because none of my truck is power so I know I would have to wire it all.

If you were building a truck again, would you do it again?

I up graded the wife crew with power locks and windows. I got a factory harness form another member, and snatched some window regs out of a suburban in a junk yardand Bought new lock actuators from advance. Then I opted for a keyless entry, remote start and alarm from crimestoppers. all in all it wasnt the easiest thing iv done but it wasn't the hardest either. if you go that route be prepared to spend a few days working everything out.

I'd do it again in a second...my son was little it was safer locking him in..he's 16 now..lol. Wants to drive it now..

Thanks for the input guys!!! I think I'll tough it out and do it!! I mean all I got it time and if it takes me a few days or a week so be it, it'll be done.

I have power door locks on my 83 Silverado and they are OK, but there is a downside to PDL. When I put the key fob for remote keyless in my pants pocket after leaving the truck, I will somehow accidentally push the button when I am walking or when I put my hand in my pocket. When I go back to the truck I find that I have door locks in the open position. The same thing happens on new vehicles I have owned, so I guess it is just operator error in the case of keyless entry.

One thing about PDL on our old trucks - you have to make sure the lock rod and associated mechanism is kink free and lubed up. The power actuators cannot overcome the resistance from any hang ups in the mechanical parts of the door lock. When you lift the lock button with your fingers you exert a lot more force than with a little electrical solenoid.

The kit I just got has a provision for just that sorta thing. I have mine set to automatically re-lock and rearm if the doors were not opened shortly after disarm. i know what you mean about having the actuators moving nice and free. still tweaking mine to work effortlessly.

The A-1 electric actuators are very strong..never had a problem with them. Never unlocked unintentionally either. I also liked installing them without switches, one less mechanicle thing to worry about.
