Electric fans?

What do i need for fan(s). Im putting a 5.3 im my 69 with an ls1 intake. It looks like to me ill have to swap the waterpump with one out of a car. Is this true. Or can i keep my truck pump and clutch fan to save little money for time being. If i cant do that what electric fans and pump can i get from a junk yard to work. Preferably something alittle more plentiful than camaros and vettes ie. Equinox trail blazers etc. Did anything like that come with electric fans?

you can use a 07 or newer waterpump from a silverado - it changes the hose outlet angle and keeps the correct pulley spacing for the belt. If you go to the car pump you will need to change the balancer and your acc mounts.

Re: Electric fans?

If you're running an LS1 intake you can't put a.clutch fan on it since the throttle body is lower and further forward.

Yep, the throttle body interfere's with the water pump outlet on your truck pump, that's why he said use an 07 or newer pump. That would be the most cost effective/easiest way, if you want to run the low profile intake.

I'm using a stock 4 core on my 77, with dual electric fans that came out of an 96 LT1 Camaro. As long as they mount up and have a shroud for each fan, it will cool these engines.

You could use something like this.... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g4852

Re: Electric fans?

Should bolt right up... the only difference is the upper hose neck. It's at more of angle and a little lower on the pass side...

I don't have a spare DBC throttlebody to check, but a DBW throttlebody won't clear the 2007 waterpump outlet with an LS1 intake.

Wicky, I used one for a ford contour on my 82 w/dbw. It is a dual fan that came on the contours from 1995 to 1999 v6 2.5 engine. I got mine from amazon for about $110.00 new. Should be able to find these in the junk yard for a fare price. I dont remember the dimentions but it did not stick out much. Take a look at this one , it may work for what you want to do without changing the pump. I did build a flat piece of alum in behind of the rad to mount it to, but you would not have to do this, could just use some brackets. Heres a picture of what I did. Works great.

Ls1 thanks for the pic. Mines dbw so that looks like that def wont work. Looks like itll just be easiest to get a whole front ass. off a car. Prob be whole cleaner look any way. Does anyone have a pic of the car ass. See how they actualy look.
Thats good to know Homemade. I can prob pick one of those up for cheap at junk yard.

Re: Electric fans?

Just thought id throw this up. I still have a tk intake but no ps pump. So i bought a shorter belt and removed the top idler pully my set up looks like the camaro setup only my alt is still in the top position and it goes straight from there to the crank. I have not had an issue yet but if i do i will install an idler between alt and crank like gm did. This mod cost nothing except a shorter belt from the parts store

get an f-body water pump, they make spacer blocks to move the camaro water pump out so the pulley lines up with the truck acc. or you can get one with the wide pulley....mine is a aftermarket high flow one from rpc with the wide pulley....
