Tool Box doors
Does anyone know if in 1973 and up trucks they used a tool box door like they did in the 67-72 trucks on the bottom side of the bed ?
Thanks |
Re: Tool Box doors
I think it was 73-74(it was really early in the production years), and I think it was a option. There pretty rare to come across!

Re: Tool Box doors
Thanks GM, trying to ID a part. It looks very similar to 67-72 but its a little shorter in length.

Re: Tool Box doors
I had one on my 73, but the truck lived in the rust belt and the door rusted almost completely away. The tool box itself was plastic or fiberglass (?), so it survived, but the door was just bolted shut before I got it. I junked the whole truck in about 2001.

Re: Tool Box doors
It looks like a 73+ door
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...t=tool+stowage If you are interested in selling it, I really need it for mine...as long as you aren't looking for Barrett Jackson $$ Please let me know. |
Re: Tool Box doors
I would so love two of those for my truck. One for sweaters and such. The other for basic tools I like to keep handy. I will probably put a couple of small lock boxes in the bed to compensate.
My 66 F100 project has got one so far, and I just need to dig a second up. The side storage boxes is one thing I think Ford got really right, and I am sad that they or nobody never kept up the idea. Besides Dodge who just introduced the Ram box a couple of years ago. |
Re: Tool Box doors
Yes that looks like the right door. Here is a pic of my 73 GMC from a couple years ago.

Re: Tool Box doors
That is awesome! I want one or thwo of these as well for mine! If anybody every hears of one, let me know.
But even if you have the door, it would take quite some work to mount it to the ebdside, correct? the original bedise with this option had a lip on it that reset the dorr... has anyone modified a regulat bedside to fit a storage compartment door like this? |
Re: Tool Box doors
Would these have been an option for trucks with only one fuel tank?
|
Re: Tool Box doors
My 75 has the fuel tank on the passenger side and the tool box is on the drivers side where the tank would normally be if dual tanks were ordered. The door won't open though :/
