1977 Chevy C10 Slow build.

While this Build will take a few months, I figured I would start a build thread to keep track of all the pics i have been taking. Which isn't a lot so far. But with time it will progress to something worth a crap. I hope to have is pretty much done be august.

OK, on to the truck, Its a 77 SWB 2wd C10. When i bought the truck from a friend it didn't have a motor, the cab was rotted and needed a set of factory wheels a some rubber. But 250 bucks later it was mine. After throwing in a motor and 700r4 trans i had in here she was up and running. Well on to some pics. I have just started the body work so there will be a few pics of that and i hope this weekend I can get in primer with pics of that too.

Bad video, But its a sounds clip of the new cam.

Cool project. I'll follow along. I'm doing the same right now but on an 83 SWB GMC.

Went to the shop today and got the tach installed and finished what little I have to do before priming tomorrow. I will get some pics of the tach install when I get to the shop in the AM.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 Slow build.

After a slow start to the day, I finally got out to the shop and got some paint laid on the old girl.... Did the worst thing you could think of. I still had the primer mentality and i ran the crap out of a few spots. Sucks as now there will be a lot of color sanding and buffing in my near future. But hey some times that's how it goes. On to some pics as promised.

I had thought I sprayed the Single Stage a tad to dry and it looked like it had a lot of orange peal in it. After letting it set for 2 hrs i went back to the shop to check on it. To my surprise it looked like it flowed out and started to smooth up quite a bit. I will go to the shop some time today and check it with more pics to come...

There was one um... We will call it a minor spot. A run on the driver fender. From the front to the back. Hey if I'm going to do it I might as well do it right! :metal:

Here is a pic of the run,

Went to the shop for a few minutes. Paint is looking really good. I will try and get some outside pics tomorrow. I am just being overly protective about the new paint and wanna leave it lock up for one more day. Until then here is a pic or two.

Well I rolled the truck out of the shop and took all the masking off. Here is where we are at as of now. Here in the next few days I will get back to the shop and get the trans swapped out with new stall converter, and get the cutouts welded on. Stay tuned for more pics to come.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 Slow build.

OK, been slacking on this build thread so here is some more for ya. I finished up the trans and decided to take a look at that old 10 bolt that was in my burban that I got the donor transmission out of. Sure enough it was a 3.73 with a posi. The 10 bolt that's in my truck now had a set of 2.73 gears. Sense I'm shooting for a truck that's fun from stop light to stop light I commenced to yanking out the two and swapping them around. Here is some more pics and a quick video.

Sorry for the shakiness of the video, My buddy was trying to record with two cameras.

I decided while i was there to pull the Dizzy and take out the mechanical advance and weld it at full advance, Known as "Locking out" the Distributor I didn't take any pics of the process. I guess I should have. I got the motor set to 30* BTDC and stabbed the dizzy back in and fired it up. Took and timing light and set it to 36*btdc. If anyone has a large cam i would recommend doing this. Made a world of difference.

Had a dyno session Tuesday. After tuning the carb and a few other items

313.4whp
369.6wtq

On a 150 Jet it made
444.7hp
501tq

This 'locking out' thing is new to me. Please explain more - it sounds good.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 Slow build.

Bikeman, you do this when the cam needs lots of base or idle timing. The cam I used is 235/249 @50 and I'm still on 8.75:1 compression. This cam wants to run on 10.5 cr. Here is a link to a great page for more info. Locking out a dizzy is near the bottom.
