Lowering by doing a axel swap??
Ok I have a 1972 C-10 2 wheel drive truck it has the leaf spring set up.. My question ... Would it be possible to swap out to a newer model truck rear end that has leaf springs and disk brakes and in the process lower my truck by the rear end sitting on top of the springs instead of being mounted under them??? Has this been done before ???

Re: Lowering by doing a axel swap??
DJM sells a "flip kit" for your existing rearend that will put it on top of the leaf springs.
No need to change to a different rearend. |

If the "new" rear end is set up for leafs under not over & the spring mounting pad is the correct width, then it'll be a simple swap. Otherwise you might have do a flip kit on the new rear end and/or move the mounting pads which means setting up for pinion angle & welding. Not to mention that swapping rear ends means dealing with brake line threads & emergency brake cable attachment.

Even then you would have to change your master cylinder and proportioning valve to have rear disc brakes.

Re: Lowering by doing a axel swap??
It would be a lot simpler to do the flip kit and ad disc brakes to your current axle. Anything after 87 will have metric fittings for brakes and lugs, along with a different width.

Re: Lowering by doing a axel swap??
Well i think maybe you might have do a turn kit on the new back end and or move the increasing shields which indicates setting up for pinion position & welding. In addition to that changing back ends indicates working with braking mechanism line discussions & emergency braking mechanism wire connection . . . . .
