How about a 52 Chevy Dually 4x4 Welding rig?

I've been thinking about starting another project when I get up to Montana this summer.

I found this puppy for sale on craigslist.

I have been looking around, finding lots of parts, been thinking about what I could put together with it. What I am envisioning is a fuel injected big block, NV4500 with a 205 or dana 300 and a Dana 44 and a Dana 60 up front and a P30 14 bolt out back.

I was thinking some twinkie truck 19.5's

and one of these puppies on the back on a custom made welding bed.

I have several options I am considering, one is taking a 88-98 1 ton dually that already has the 5 speed and 454 then sectioning the cab from the 52 over the floor and firewall from the 88-98

Another is simply just moving everything over to the 52 and building new spring hangars and what not to make everything fit.

I had also thought about seeing what it would take to make a 12 valve Cummins fit, These old trucks I know the hoods are fairly long, it might squeeze in. I don't know anyone who has done it so far.

Right now this is all just food for thought, it would be a neat build if I built it.

Thought you guys might get a kick out of looking at it.

I won't be tearing one of mine down to build this if I do I will be buying a parts truck, I found an 86 4x4 that has a utility bed on it. The truck is pretty rough so it is ripe for parts.

That is kinda what I would like to do with this truck that I just drug home. I now need to find a 1 ton 4x4 dually donor truck.

Great idea! Have a look at these. The 48 looks in decent condition. A COE would be cool with a Cummins if you could find one at a reasonable price.

That first truck is a rusted out turd!

The 2nd one is cool but needs a lot of finishing. I am not very hot on how they did the floor boards.

It would have been much more advantageous to build a new plenum with a front intake to keep the floor board wider.

I am 6'1" 300 lbs, sitting with my right leg tucked up against the steering column doesn't sound very comfy.

I started building a service truck for the shop, but my son decided he needed it so now we're building this for my son as his welding truck....'54 6600 on a '92 3/4 ton dodge chassis with 5.9 auto, 2 wh. dr.... Soon to be 4 wh. dr. Took off the utility bed and we are putting a welding bed with a dual wheel one ton cab and chassis rearend and front end.

Cummins fits. Actually had to move the stock motor mounts back about 4 inches as I had too much space between the back of the engine and firewall. This gives me enough room for the radiator and inter cooler....Joe.

Joe, very cool truck!

Right now I am not going to pursue this project, I was thinking about it but I really need to get my 72 finished first.

Been updating it pretty heavy if you guys are interested:
