tire help
ok guys i need some input because tire fitting is like japanese to me. I have some 16.5 rims that i think are either 9 or 9.5 wide. my question is can i put i think 12 or 12.5 wide tires on it or is that to much of a difference and will not work. thanks for your input

Re: tire help
Should be fine as long as they are 33" tall or greater.

Re: tire help
If 16.5 they're probably either 8.25 or 9.75 wide, but yes either will be fine with 12.5 tire.

Re: tire help
Measure your rims inside bead-to-bead to determine their width. A couple common widths for 16.5s are 8.25" and 9.75".
For typical highway use, a tire's tread width should roughly match the width of the wheel. Looking at a 33/12.50-16.5 tire, 12.50 is the nominal section width, and the tread width is 9" - 10". The correct rim width is 9.75". 8.25" can be used but is better suited for off-road where low pressures are used. http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp is a good resource. You can look up tires by size and they will show you the recommended rim width range. |
