Wheels for my 1966 C10
Hello,
I need help picking out wheels for my 66 C-10. I am leaning towards 17" or 18" wheels at the moment. I am thinking about these: Cragar Eliminator 500's http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cr...5045/overview/ The truck has a 3 1/2" drop (2 1/2 spindle and 1" drop springs) up front, and the rear has a 4" drop. What back spacing and tires are you guys running with 17"s? Please post pics if you have something similar for me to see. Thank you. Tom Jenkins |
Re: Wheels for my 1966 C10
On my '66 GMC (not sure if Dana 44 is same width as chevy axle), I had to get 1" spacers for my 4 1/2" back space rims (17" x 8" rims, 275/55/17 tires) when I dropped the rear. So from that experience, I would say stick with 3 1/2" back space.

on my 62 step side I have 17X8 with a 5 inch drop and a 4.5 inch back spacing. with the same up front. it is the original rear axle and the wheel is vary evenly spaced.

Re: Wheels for my 1966 C10
Ok, now I'm thinking of running 18"/20". Will wheels this large work with a 3.5"/4" drop?
Please post pics of what you guys are running. Thank you. |

Yes they will. My drop is 3.5 front, 2.5" drop spindle, 1" coil, 4" rear coil

Re: Wheels for my 1966 C10
I think the question to ask is what is the total diameter from the ground to the top of the tire, that way you can get an idea of what will work with different amts of drop.
My truck has a 2-1/2" drop in the front with 255 x 65 R17 in tires on 17 X 9 front rims Cragar SS wheels with no offset (due to the wider 91 burb front end under my truck) 7" drop at rear (guess) I have air bags back there......265 x 70 R17 on 17 x 9 cragar ss wheels (stock rear axle---no spacers---offset unknown) but there is no more room toward the outside of the fender well lip, and if we drop it anymore it is going to hit the top of the inner fenderwell.....in other words it is full and there is no more room at the top of the fenderwell nor on the inside of the fenderwell ....tire is 30" tall. If we lower it more the inner fenderwells will have to be modified (higher and wider) http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G...FpdQ6&lb=1&s=A It does not look that low but it is due to the tall tires. Kieth :uhmk: I like the taller tires, my trucks have some meat on the wheel not those bandaid looking things...............they call tires these days.....ha ha.... :gmc2: |
