Fleetside Trim Clip Question ???
 

I'm starting to put my truck together. It's a 1965 Fleetside Short Bed. I was wondering where the best place to get the clips from? I have been to numerous web site for the clips. They range from plastic and metal combos that cost around $30.00-$50.00 to all steel ones that cost as much as $100.00. Anyone use the plastic ones and if so how did they work? If anyone has any info or recommendations let me know.

I would look at Classic Parts, they have always had good parts and great CS.

Mar-K sells just the clips. Theirs are plastic, but are sturdy.

Just installed new Mar-K trim on my 66 Fleet LWB. All of their clips worked great. Some were plastic and some had to be nutted on (Front fenders) But no problem with any..
The hardest problem was drilling the 100 holes in the fresh paint and new fenders.... But all's done now and looks great! (I think)

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the Classic parts and Mark K and they both showed the plastic clips. I have had good luck buying parts from both companies. Thanks again and have a good night.

I used all metal clips with speed nuts, gives you a little more room to adjust the trim up or down to get everything lined up perfect.

i did this also... sometimes if the holes are not exactly the right size the plastic clips won't pull up tight and the metal spring clips can rebound and damage paint.

with the speed nutted clips... no problems. i got mar-k to send enough to do the job.

Thank you for the info. I have a few of the metal clips with the thread and nuts all ready some old and a few new ones. Around my house they only sell them by the piece, that can get expensive. I will give Mark- K a call today.

I had the same question awhile back. Greg63 has a great idea...

I used spacers inside the back of the trim. I 3M'ed the spacer to the trim and then 3M'ed the trim to the truck. I used 1/4" plastic that I gathered from my work as spacers and they worked out well. I put the 3M about every 6" - 8" along the length of the trim.
As for location on the truck, I eyeballed it. I did the front fender first and then the door (so the recessed section at the front edge of the door piece would open without hitting the fender). After that the lower door piece and then the box. Once the lower door piece is attached and parallel to the upper door piece, the box upper and lower follow along from the door.

It's pretty easy once you get into it.

Im interested in sticking my trim on also. Does anyone know what kind of trim tape is good and wont fall off? What did Greg63 use for tape?
