Re: Old car city
Did he charge you $20 to walk around and look at all the rusted junk ? The last time I was there I was looking for a 68 Chevelle SS hood and he says yes I have one $500 .We went out and looked at it and as soon as I started raising the hood the underside of the hood fell off due to all the pine straw that had rotted it out .He has plenty of glass and good bumpers though .

Re: Old car city
No telling how many old trucks & cars are in the woods rusting away, I know of a few here in south Georgia, the folks won't sell because they think they are either worthless or worth a ton of money or they plan to restore/fix-up one day. When my wife & I started dating in the early 80's, her dad had a 72 Cheyenne, 350, factory air, nice truck, everything still there, the transmission was slipping so he parked it since he had other trucks to use, I asked him about selling it to me, he said he was going to fix it. Guess what? it didn't move for 25 years, it was dark green when he parked it, when he finally sold it for junk you couldn't even tell what color it was. He had some timber cut & one of the workers talked him into selling that truck & a few more that he had parked over the years. He said he figured I wouldn't still want it since it was worthless. (That's what he thought). I know he had that 72 Cheyenne, a 70 Chevelle, 75 Malibu, 56 Ford truck, and a couple of old Dodge trucks, he never traded vehicles, he just parked them with intentions of using them for 2nd & 3rd vehicles. Me or my wife has never asked him what he got out of all those old vehicles but I bet it wasn't much. Man I wanted that Cheyenne. Sorry for such a long post.

Re: Old car city
Wow. If I had all that stuff I'd never leave the garage!! Why wouldn't a fellow sell half that stuff for $50 and $100. Instead of $500 for something with rot all through it! At least parts would get used, and wouldn't sit in the dirt. Oh, and I'll take an 8' fleetside bed, sir.

Re: Old car city
So is it a salvage yard or a museum? If the idea is to charge admission to look at Granpappy's old car collection he's on it, but $10 just to have a look is silly. What's he charge when something is bought? "Storage and handling" fee? There's lots of collections out there as we all know. There's a 100 acre lot in the Thumb of Michigan that drove me crazy every day that I drove by it as a kid, anyone from there knows about Skipinski's. Never could get anything out of them and still to this day everthing sinks a bit further every year.

Re: Old car city
what a waste of classic cars!!! sad

Re: Old car city
I'm not that far from White. Does he sell parts? I see several things I would like to have. I think I spy a big back window 56 F100 cab...those are hard to find.

Re: Old car city
What's sad is those first gen camaros are nicer than the 67 firebird I'm trying to save...
If that 68 is a real SS, it's actually worth a bit of $, even as rough as it is. Pine straw and leaves out in the middle of the woods are bad for cars. They get wet, and once piled up, the wet stuff on the bottom stuck to the cars never dries out... RUST! |
Re: Old car city
He does sell parts if you can afford to buy them ,he is pricey .
|
Re: Old car city
Are you serious? Do people really pay to walk around & look?
|
Re: Old car city
Yeah people do. And I am going back here to soon. I love the place! Its huge! I walked there for 4 hours a few morning ago, and still did not cover the whole place.. It is sad that these cars are rotting away, but most of them are there for a reason. And could only be parts cars. Being they were wrecked. Better this than being crushed!
