Fabricate a custom tranny cross member?

Hey y'all - I'd like to build a custom tranny cross member for the TH350 in my '80 swb, 2 wheel drive. I know I can build it, I'm just not good with design work. Do any of you have a design for one of these for me to work off of or know of a design on the internet that is a good one to use?

My goal is to eliminate the stock cross member so my exhaust can be as even as possible on both sides.

Any help would be great. Thanks guys!

this seemed like a huge pain in the ass to me when i had this idea for the same reason, an "X" pipe might be your best friend if you want to make your exhaust even and its much easier

www.performanceonline.com it says for 60-72, but apparently fits 73-87's.... just have to drill a few holes that don't line up. I'll be installing mine in a couple weeks.

I used this TransAdapt drop crossmember. The drop allows you have room for your exhaust. That straight crossmember above will be in the way if you want to tuck your exhaust.

Only issue I have with the single tube crossmembers like the straight one and mine too is that they don't tie the top and bottom of the frame together. If you look at KQQL IT's early factory Xmember it is 3 pieces and hits the frame in 4 places. I modified mine to bolt into the bottom and side of the frame. My 2€

PM your email address. I have a custom made crossmember. It's made of 2" tube steel. It's made with dual humps for exhaust routing. Works great. The exhaust it tucked up into the underside.

I had only planned on using the bottom piece without the side supports.
When I drooped the t400 onto it the rail rolled in a good bit. So I put them back in.

Who made your crossmember. I would like to be able to run a x-pipe above the crossmember if possible. Someone post a link to a site that made them for LS conversions but can not remember the site now. Although I think the exhaust ran under the crossmember.

I bought the one pictured above thinking it mounted high in the frame. I can't use it with my long tube headers. 20% off sale if anyone is interested.

Are you talking about the one from trans adapt or thors bros. There is also one from performance online but there is no pic of it.
