Can I get some op's on tires and wheels!
87 is getting a 3" suspension lift.
so tire wise I'm trying to decide between mickey thompson mtz, cooper stt or togo open country mt. I'm leaning towards mickey thompson mtz but if you have run any of these tires before tell me about the ride and the noise I want least noise as possible. another thing is the wheels should I put these 33x12.50 on the stock 8" ralley wheels and repaint them or buy like mickey thompson classic II's 15x10's? it's hard to say which I like better! white walls or black walls out? |

Toyo mt are awesome!! and they last forever. Cant go wrong with ralley's or classic IIs

Re: Can I get some op's on tires and wheels!
my dad has cooper stt's on his jeep in a 33''. They are awesome both on and off road. In the rocks they seem to just be a good tire but mud and snow they work sweet. Plus i think they are one of the only tires that have a 3 ply sidewall. The only downside is the price

cant speak for the mickey t's or cooper's, but you cant go wrong with toyo's. i have 38" toyo m/t's for about 5 or 6 yrs now. incredibly hard wearing! over 4000 lb per tire load rating & they can take some good hits
whacked my front one on the rocks hard enough to dent the bead-2 yrs ago, still holding air & goes down the road strait as an arrow, no thumping or wobble or anything Attachment 1087880 |

Toyo but 33x13.50 not 12.50, only true size tire on your list of choices

I like the Mickey Thompsons but I bought the Baja Claws instead of the MT's.
You want radials because they will last 3 times as long as the bias ply's and because they are pretty quiet. I ran two sets of bias ply's on my 90 gmc and got 15,000 out of each set and the noise was incredible. Also as you slow down for a stop sign you can really feel the lugs vibrating the truck. With the radials I am on my 3rd set and they are averaging 40,000 - 45,000 miles per set. If you buy the Baja Claws on E-Bay make sure you are getting the new design called the Baja Claw TT.There are still some of the older design out there and if something happens you will have to replace atleast two at a time.Blackwalls out. |

your rig is what put me on toyos initially

Plus, the added flexing of the bias ply tire has a tendency to develop "flat spots" when sitting. The flat spots go away after the tire is driven for a while and builds a little bit of heat and softens the rubber, but you can certainly feel it on cold mornings. |

those are factory GM centers I had welded to new 15x8 hoops with 4" backspacing. Theres a guy in Colorado I use that makes custom steel wheels. He gets original steel wheels and put them on new hoops at backspacing you want in standard size hoops like 8", 10 and 12" wide. He also powder coats them in any color you want. The whole set cost me $650 shipped

Re: Can I get some op's on tires and wheels! ,
I would say coopers. Ive had two sets and both were awesome on and off road, and last forever for a mud tire. That will be the only mud type tire i will ever own unless i want something for really hardcore, little road use off road rig. Most toyos i see dont last very long at all, and are really loud on the road. Even set up correctly with being ballanced, rotated, and the right psi it seems like they dont last. The coopers are great on road and good off road. The only things that seem to affect my off road rig with 35x12.50 coopers is tons of mud and deep snow on steep Hils. Great all around tire. I dont know much about the mickey thompson, but id say on road the cooperr will have the least noise. Just my expieriences with those two tires, hope this helps.

Re: Can I get some op's on tires and wheels!
The difference between the worst tire ever made and the best tire ever made for snow is about 20 feet.
I live in California and my relatives in Idaho are always pushing the snow with there front bumper because they know how to drive in snow back there. I took them skiing near Donner Pass and 50 feet from the hotel they had both of there rigs stuck on the side of a onramp. Apparently we have the wrong kind of snow out here. |
Re: Can I get some op's on tires and wheels!
Like i said thats my expierience witht hem. Ive never owned a set of toyos due to the extremely bad expieriences ive seen and every rig ive eever taken a ride in with them the tire noise was so loud on it was ridicoulous. Ive had coopers that were on the a blazer i had in 07, swapped them to another rig, and they are still going strong. By far the quietest mud tire on the road ive ever heard. The only other tire i i have owned that i think is better on road is a bfg all terrain(what i have currently). Not knockin toyos, good tires, just dont think a toyo mt is the best on road mud tire.
