Stake pocket uses

Hey all,

Forgive my ignorance re the stake pockets on our trucks but I assume they are/were used for fitting bar work or tie downs etc???

Has anyone got pics of these being used for practical purposes whether they are being used as designed or for something else.

Would love to see some.

I was kind of wondering the same thing. Used to see wooden side stakes in all the trucks YEARS ago. Does anybody do this anymore? Pix If you do..

You can find plans on how to build stake sides on the internet.
I don't have any. (I thought it'd be a good idea to finish the truck first.)
But I plan on building some like these:

Those wooden sides look sensational.

Be good to see if anyone has figured out other uses.

Hello Dodger, Just thought I'd throw a couple in. The top was picture was 1974 and the bottom 1975 after I had him painted. You can see the side boards that I put on. The reason was I still used my truck to haul stuff around so anything that went into the bed went over the tailgate and not over the fenders. The fenders had dozens of little dents from the PO's loading stuff over the fenders into the bed. No side boards just made it too easy to put stuff in the bed, so I put the sides to help break the habit.

Mechanix man,, I like those side boards they look great. I'll build some similar to those for ocasional use.

OrrieG,, I love that picture, reminds me of home a long time ago.

Here's the stakes I made for mine. I purposely used old wood to match the truck's appearance. I'm thinking about ripping the 2x4's to make a dual rail stake instead.

If you notice that is also used as a live stock (cows, pigs, etc.) rack with the sliding back gate. When I got my truck my wifes Kansas farmer grandfather advised me to get rough sawn board for the replacement bed so the hooves would not slid around!

Gotta Grandpa, but sloppy, wet manure negates the bother with rough-sawn.

Many a cow, sheep and pig, came home and went to market in our 52, and later 62 using 4 foot high stock racks. Always threw in half a bale of straw and a shovel of gravel before loading them. I was my job to clean it out when we were done. Thats how I got to drive around the coral and pasture when I was only ten.

This pic is kind of dark, but I think you can see mine. I guess I'm going to have some pics taken outdoors.
