Will my rocker panels be strong enough?
5 Attachment(s)
So in the next couple days, I had planned on removing my cab to clean and paint the frame, but now I'm having reservations. My plan was to put the cab on a pair of movers dollys that I got from Harbor Freight, but I'm a little worried about doing that now with the condition of the rockers. I know it's a little hard to tell from the pictures, but do you guys think it would be safe to have the cab sitting on these rusty rocker panels or should I tackle that job first before I remove the cab? Thanks!!

Re: Will my rocker panels be strong enough?
Hey that's a great idea!! I might have to go get a couple more jack stands because I was going to use those for the frame after I get all the suspension and rear end off but I will probably do that. Thanks!!

Re: Will my rocker panels be strong enough?
We used the same inexpensive furniture dollys, added a little wood to them to equalize the height and moved the cab around for months til we finished with it and were ready to paint it. Worked great. As others said use the cab mounting points not the sill. They are carrying the weight now and were designed to carry the weight. Kieth

Re: Will my rocker panels be strong enough?
We cut a 4x4 into 4 pieces, shorter in front and screwed them to dolly. We put the 4x4s under each cab mount location and then drilled holes thought the 4x4s and bolted through the cab mounting holes. Hope that makes sense.

I used the dollies from harbor freight with a few 2x4s and some 4x4 post. screwed together with 3 inch deck screws. Here's a pic.

Re: Will my rocker panels be strong enough?
That rust isn't that bad. It will be fine. you can support near the cab mounts or at the panel seam where the outer rocker meets the inner rocker.
