What should cover these wires?
1 Attachment(s)
Is there a cover missing from the inside firewall for the stop and tail light wires? Is seems odd that these wires are just exposed near the accelerator pedal. There is a nut an bolt there. What are they for?

taillights/reverse light. No cover. The plug goes through the firewall and connects to the intermediate bed harness.

Re: What should cover these wires?
Do you know what the nut and bolt are for?

Re: What should cover these wires?
What year truck? I have a 61 & 63....neither have that nut. Whats on the other side of the firewall that it's connected to?

Re: What should cover these wires?
It is a 66. There is just a bolt sticking through from the engine compartment with the nut on it as shown in the picture.

Re: What should cover these wires?
There were some differences in the 60-62 & 63, and the 64-66 cabs. Maybe someone with a 64-66 can help some. Ive never seen this bolt in any 60-63 chevy truck. If it doesn't do anything, Id take it out and fill the hole.

Re: What should cover these wires?
Should the wires go underneath the inside firewall cardboard insulation? Or are they just supposed to be sticking out like they are now?

Re: What should cover these wires?
They are correct as is.

Re: What should cover these wires?
Thanks for your help 1963c10. Much appreciated! My under-dash wiring has been such a quagmire that I don't trust anything about it. Forturnately, after untangling it, I was able to get everything to work. Although my heater blower only works on low and high speeds, but that probably means I need a new heater resister.

Re: What should cover these wires?
Probably the heater switch itself. If its getting hot on low & high, the resistor is working. Replace the dash switch 1st. Obviously the blower motor is working, so that the only thing I'd replace.

Re: What should cover these wires?
I just looked at my 66. The wires are exactly as your's are.. The bolt thing is not a bolt on mine. It's a plastic (OEM) fastner to hold the cardboard insulation in. If that helps.

Re: What should cover these wires?
There is a firewall plug just under it. Kinda an odd place to put a bolt.
