1960 Apache Hoodbird?

Never saw a "hood ornament" for any of these trucks Till I got this 1960 snb Apache last week with one on it. I doubt if its original, but.... someone had mentioned in a past post that the 1960 & 1961 did have a factory hoodbird???
Never saw one anywhere-ever buttttttttttt?
Anyone ever seen a Real Factory hoodbird for any of these trucks?

Don't know if pics will show up

Heres the correct hood jets. GMC is short nosed, chevy is longer. The pic of the chevy is aerotruk63's...he has the history of these ornaments.

I kinda figured it was an add-on. Fits pretty good, and looks OK

If you like it, I say leave it. Even though its not factory, dont let it stop you if you enjoy it there. Some better pics of it might help us id it correctly for you

I reeeeeeeely want one of those long-nose Chevy ones. I love how the jet's intakes correspond with the 60 Chevy turn signal pod's vertical bars.

I spent the better part of two days at the Charlotte swap meet last weekend and didn't find either. In fact, I only saw several 55 and 56 Chevy jets, and a couple off brands. All were in poor shape. Oh well, the hunt continues.

How 'bout this NOS 56 on eBay right now...$$ LINK

Re: 1960 Apache Hoodbird?

I believe that ebay link is for a 1956 hood bird for a 1956 Chevrolet CAR. The hood bird from aerotruk63 is sitting on a 62 to 66 hood. Anybody know what goes on, or IF, anything is for the 1960/61 Apache hood? I wouldn't think those two completely different hoods would have the same hood birds.

The hoor ornaments were for 60 & 61 only. 62-66 didnt have a hood ornament. But they will fit and look good. If the dealerships could order them, then you could get them.

Re: 1960 Apache Hoodbird?

From everything I’ve read the last hood bird offered for Chevy trucks was for the 55-56 trucks, as seen in this thread:

These are available in reproduction from Chevy Duty:

According to the following site, both the long and short nose birds were GMC offerings. The long version was for 55-59 GMC’s and the short nose version for the 60-61 hoods, although this site suggest both were for the 55-59 models:

I hear you 70inline6. I love those long nose ones too. I've been watching for one for about 6 months now. Only seen 2 so far and both were way to expensive for my budget. One needed one of the wings welded back together and then re-chromed and they still wanted nearly $500 for it. The other I found was a NOS in pristine shape. They wanted more than I paid for my whole truck for it. ($1500, I thought they were out of their minds but 3 weeks later it was sold)

I'm still looking for that bargin at the swap-meet or ebay but no luck so far. Wish you luck on your search.

It looks close, but back end looks different. I didn't spot it in the link you gave. I'll bet it is really a fender ornament for a huge GM tank. (Olds, Cad, Buick, etc)

When I was a wee lad of 5 years old in 1960, I had my oldest brother remove one of those jets from family truck so I could use it as a toy plane.

My dad was not happy with either of us.
