Front hood

I have a question I have 1979 C10 and my front hood is a pain to open . My release to open my hood is in the front . So I dont know if its right but when I push up on my hood release does the hood suppose to pop up a little because my hood dosent . The way i have to open my hood is I have to push up the hood release and at the same time I have to pull up the hood and that sucks . Can someone tell me if thats the way the front hood works .

Re: Front hood

Lube the hood latch assembly. Otherwise the chevy smack does it

Re: Front hood

It should. Do you have the spring installed?

Re: Front hood

There is supposed to be a spring on the bottom of the hood, near the center. Is it still there?

Re: Front hood

Make sure to liberally lube the hinges , if they are stiff hood won't pop. Spray both sides of the hinge at all pivot points, there are several.

Re: Front hood

Like INSID said above, grease the catch lever mechanism. That, or bang the top of the front of the hood, just off center, with the side of your fist (Chevy smack).

Re: Front hood

i pulled my hood off and put it back on straighter than it was and it had a hard time opening. you can move the latch around a little.

about like this?

Re: Front hood

I've never had to grab the edges, but I've always dealt with 81+ hoods. I just smack them on the pass side of the center ridgeline.

Re: Front hood

Open the hood just a bit, and look at where the latch is going into the hole in the hood. Adjust the latch with the series of bolts around it to where it goes right in the center. Then grease the crap out of it. It'll open and close like a Toyota.

You can try what I do, even after spraying WD40 on the hinges and hood release I still have to hit the top of the passenger side front of the hood with the ball of my fist to get it to pop up. It will make you feel like Fonzi from Happy Days, lol!

Re: Front hood

Like everyone said earlier, lube the hinges and latch assembly. WD-40 works miracles!
