I started on this a couple months ago. Got it all appart . Got some patch pannels replaced. I hav had this truck for about 16 years. Put a 430 Buick in it back then. Still plan on using the Buick. It had a blowen head gasket, got the head surfased and just need to put it back together. I don't know just how far I will go with the truck before I run out of gas. I am 65 now and getting slower all the time.
My doner car is a 79 Camaro for the front sus and the diff.

Got some work done . Moved the battery box under the pass side with an access door on the step. Finished the firewall. mounted the brake peddel asm from the Camaro . That took some work to get it to fit. Mounted the gas peddel from the Camaro also. also made the gas filler into a power radio ant.mount. Yesterday sandblasted the frame. still need to pull the front sus apart sand blast it some more paint and install new suss components inc springs.
I am really amazed at the talent that is out there and on the fourm here. Especially the younger genoration.
If my GMC was rusted as bad as what I see on the fourm I would have to pass. Maybe 30 years ago I would try it. I really appreciate what they are doing. I did get the frame notched. Rich

When I C notch my frame I off centered the notch toward the rear because when spring moves up and down during deflection it also travels back due to the shacke design.

Ingenious, I never would have thought of that.

May I suggest putting a battery with side terminals on it? The space looks kinda tight.

BTW, I'm 58 so 65 is looking younger and younger to me all the time.;)

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC

I need to up date this. I have the frame sandblasted and painted. all new front end parts installed, ball joints, bushings and new front springs.
all the body is done. everything is in primer. redone the dash to fit a radio. working on the wheel tubs now. Made from trailor fenders.
I had to replace the hood. When it was sandblasted it was buckled bad. I found one for a 57 chevy That I like better anyway. I will get some pictures posted this week.

The boat trailer I made into a movable cab hauler. It worked pretty handy I could move the cab in and out of the shop.
All of the body is done except for the gas door I will put in the driver's side rear fender.
I got the 57 chevy grill painted. and the inside of the cab painted.
I had to redo the dash to fit the stereo. The stereo was given to me from one of my Grandson friends.
I will have some more pic in a couple days.

My Grandson helping me with sandblasting the cab. Got the dash finished for the stereo.
made my tubs from trailer fenders. had to cut them down, they were too wide. When welding the tubs to the bed side I clamped angle iron to the back side to keep the sides flat while I was welding.
Painted the cab inside a gun metal gray metallic. Also painted the 57 chevy grill I had , Don't have any type of GMC grill. So I guess this going to be a half breed.
Got the cab bottom undercoated. I am not very good about describing things . If you have ? just ask.

The tank and filler neck is from "Tanks" . The tank is for a 55 chevy coup . There is other tanks that might work better , When I ordered it if it didn't work I would use it for my 55 coup. The upper straps I glued some pieces of a tow strap to it . Had to get an adaptor made for the filler it was to big. I got that done at a muffler shop. He didn't charge me anything for it. I know where3 I will get my exhaust done.
The filler door I had to curl the top edge up a little. and at the back bend it in a little to make the curve.
I had to install a vent line in the tank. At least with a metal tank I can soldier it. For the bottom straps I welded the nuts to the frame rails to make it easer to get off later on. I did notch the frame for the filler pipe. I think you could get buy without doing that.
Had to cut the back sill to get the roll pan to fit for the lic plate.
Next is to sand, sand and more sanding.
Rich
