Compressor Oil and Sighting
I just fell into a new-to-me Ironhorse compressor (see the details) and aside from a few smallish issues it's also out of oil. Or as we say it around here, 'earl.
It has a sight glass but there's no markings as to how high to fill it up. Do I just dump oil in it till its full? This is my first 'earled compressor so I'm clueless. Also, does oil brand/type matter? Can I just dump some 10w30 in it? This is kinda what the sight glass looks like http://www.compressorcare.com.au/sit...%20plastic.JPG |
Re: Compressor Oil and Sighting
It probably calls for a 30w compressor oil.
I believe when I last changed the oil in mine, I used straight 30w non-detergent. Oil level on mine is currently about 1/2-3/4 up the red dot. I have the paperwork that came with my CH, though I can't lay my hands on it now. |
Re: Compressor Oil and Sighting
If CH has the same sight, do you know your model number? I'll download a manual from their website and use it instead. The Ironhorse manual is worthless.
"Plug into a the wall. Turn unit to the on. Blow the air. Dont not mis-use." Regarding the oil, I found this that says like you did, any 30 wt non detergent will do fine. What's the difference between compressor oil and regular non-detergent oil? That doesn't include my bottle of Penzoil though, because any oil listed as SAE for gas engines IS detergent oil. |

Re: Compressor Oil and Sighting
Thanks Cdowns! I filled it up halfway and it ran great for over a half hour. Now I just need to repair the line from the motor to the tank :D
