Speedo cable

Installed speedometer cable couple of hours ago(61 inches) and it was real pain in a butt to make it fit. Finally got everything in place, but cable seems to be stretched really tight. Is it so tight because its new or did i do something wrong?

PS: Measured my old before buying new cable(same length). How should it be routed inside the cab?

Any pix or advice might help

Re: Speedo cable

Should I plug it in a cluster first and then th350 bullet or other way around. If I plug speedo cable in a bullet fist i can't get my big hands in a dash to reach and plug cable in a cluster(plus not much give on a wire). Any suggestions?

Re: Speedo cable

Did you just purchase the cable or a new housing also? if you are installing a new cable into a old housing one thing to check is if the old housing has any burr's in it and if there is any strands of the old cable left intact.then the next thing is did you lubricate the new cable,i know there is always a little lube on them but not very much for long term and of course do you have the housing curved to tight in any area. hope this might help.

Re: Speedo cable

My old speedo cable was on powerglide and it was 61 inched, maybe now since I swapped in th350 (9 inch tail housing) I might need 80 inch cable instead of 61 inch.

Re: Speedo cable

well just a thought since i see i did'nt read your first question correct to begin with it sounds like that cable is to short.you will need to find one or the correct length for the 350.powerglides of course are a short transmission so i would assume that would be the cure.just find a 350 cable housing and then purchase a new cable that you can cut to fit.install it in the head first then cut it to length on the transmission side.

good luck!
