Two different upper ball joints from O'Reilly?

Several months ago I purchased and installed a Master Pro upper ball joint from O'Reillys for my '71 C10. It looked SIMILAR to this:

I then put my project on hold until winter was over, and today purchased a Master Pro upper ball joint from O'Reillys for the other side of the truck, and this one looks like this:

It seems much sturdier and appears higher quality. The hardware is better and the rubber boot is larger. The first one I bought fits fine, and I'm 99% sure the one I bought today is correct because it looks like all the photos online that I find when I search for C10 upper ball joints.

Anyone else experienced this?

I've experienced a lower ball joint that I can't grease.
The zerk assembly spills grease out 3/4" disc.
Probably not a bad idea test zerk before install.

I just went through this same issue, with what looks like the exact same joints! They came in identical boxes with the same part numbers. When I bought them I had to wait for them to be shipped overnight to the local store. I checked the part numbers to make sure they matched before I left the store. I got to the shop and installed one side then opened the other box to install the other side only to see that the joint was different. I called and they explained that one was just older stock than the other and according to their books they were interchangeable. I measured them, and they were identical. So I installed them. No issues at all. That kind of stuff just irritates the crap out me though! I'm not OCD, but I like things to be the way they're suppose to be.

I'm with you, they appear the same but it's irritating! The newer one I got just seems better made. For example, the old ball joint has plastic lock nut style nuts and the newer one has bigger hardware with actual locking washers and what not.

Like you, I don't THINK I'm OCD, but my truck will feel "lop sided" :)

Thanks for the input, at least I can be pretty certain they are both correct now.

They are probably just fine. If it bothers you just replace the older one so they match.
