Transmission temp gauge 700r4
 

I'm wanting to put a trans temp gauge in the hole for vac gauge. Would like ideas on hooking it up,mechanical or electric,and pics if possible.This is a 7004r.

I've not seen it done, but could you use another temperature gauge and have "Trans" painted on the lens? Use a regular sending unit, you may have to do some adapting to find a place to mount the sender.

I have installed transmission temp gauges in cars before. The location of the sending unit will make the accuracy of the gauge fluctuate dramatically. You can put it in line to the cooler, but I would suggest as close to the transmission as possible on the line going TO the cooler, not the return.

While the location I have chosen for my sending unit is arguably correct/incorrect I still feel as if I am getting an accurate temperature reading. In the end it is entirely how much work you want the installation to be, and if you want to really mess around with your hard lines or just stick in in your test port. The gauge I used was an Autometer Z-Series (electric short sweep) that came with the correct sender thread size and resistance. I placed mine knee-knocker style underneath the heater control unit rather than putting it into the cluster. Good luck.

I'm going to put the sensor in the pan. Having the adaptor welded in Friday. I ordered an Auto Meter #2640 electric gauge. Should fit right in vac hole. I already have a clock, which shorted out on me in there, but I would rather have the trans temp guage.
