wheel base questions.

Sorry I'm sure this is been asked many times.. But what is everybody setting their wheel base at for short bed AD trucks? I think the factory is 116" right? The rear wheels are pretty far forward in the opening, so are a lot of you pushing them back to 117"?

But most guys are using long bed s10 frames and those are 118"? So guessing they shorten the wheel base with a 4 link. Im cutting down a quad cab s10 frame with a 123" wheel base so id like to cut it down to the best possible wheel base.

So simply what wheel base length is everybody running?

Re: wheel base questions.

With the stock frame and stock axle 116 centers both wheels in the wheelwells.

The main thing when doing a swap like that isn't worrying about the exact wheelbase but getting the wheels in the right spot in the wheel well. That said, if you center the front wheel right for an independent front end so the tires look centered right you may well need the 117 to center the rear wheels in the opening. Not having the rear wheels perfectly centered on a truck is one of those things that turns me off on a truck. Guys will put mega bucks and a work and cut a corner there rather than attempt to get it right on the money like it appears that you are doing.

Those of us running leaf springs will usually redrill the holes in the spring pads on the axle to relocate the axle on the spring to where we want it.

Yeah I'm way to picky to leave the wheel base incorrect... stuff like that sticks out like a sore thumb to me.

Also yes the s10 suspension pulls the front wheels towards the rear the lower it goes.. so ride height of the frame will effect the amount you need to shorten the wheelbase I guess.

I went with 117" AND I moved the bed closer to the cab by 1"

Moved the bed forward and extended the wheel base!? Did you move the fenders back on the bed sides or something?

Re: wheel base questions.

The fenders are a little adjustable, I may have moved them back about 1/2". My running boards are tight against the front fenders and the bed skirt is tight against the cab. Unfortunately my wheels don't stick out far enough in the wheel wells to accurately tell from the pics how well they are centered.
