Muncie 4 speed install questions
Found a good small block with aluminum bell housing and Muncie 4 speed deal on Craigslist and was wondering what all it takes to get the shifter installed to clear a bench seat on our trucks? Currently have a tired 350 and TH-350 combo in the truck now but have a high hump floor piece and clutch pedals for the install.

Re: Muncie 4 speed install questions
Hurst makes a shifter and linkage kit for these trucks, I have a M22 in my truck install was very easy.

You'll want a shifter handle like this.

Re: Muncie 4 speed install questions
Back in the mid 80's ,I had a 72 c-10 long bed. It had a lame 307 and a tired 3 on the tree. I put in a 327 with a muncie 4 speed. What a change!!!! Headers, cam and the q-jet with a few other goodies.;) It would eat the new (then) style camaros in 3rd gear!! It really liked to cruise at 90mph on interstates, with plenty more to go when asked :metal: It had a low hump and I used the old cast iron bell housing. I bolted the tranny to the bell housing first and then installed it to the motor. I think two bolts had to be put in through the inside of the bell hsg and nutted on the outside of the muncie flanges. It had the large clutch 11" and a high shifter that went over the bench seat. The seat had to be set all the way back or 2nd and 4th would clash or pop out of gear!! It was a sleeper Fred Sanford cruiser!!Well thats my story and 2¢ :waah: Good luck makes me want it again!!:chevy:

If you like to shift, you cant beat a small block and a muncie 4 speed.
Youll have fun---:metal: thats the way Im going. (just an old racers opinion) |
