66, 327
my 66 came with an original 327,does anyone know anything on these engines?your help is pretty much apreciated.

Re: 66, 327
Fast/high revving, great for speed, well regarded, not a tork monster. I believe 66 was the 1st year these were in the trucks. I replaced the 1 in my 66 with a 350 built to pull a heavy load.

Re: 66, 327
Wonderful engine. Best 8 GM ever made. Keep it. Love it. Marvel over it. Drive around with it. Never let it go.

I just finished rebuilding a '68 327 and am pretty stoked to get it installed. They're great engines. Post up a pic if you can, is it green? |

Re: 66, 327
I third that comment! I drove a truck with a 68 corvette 327 and whew! That motor was wicked! Some 300 horse power!

Re: 66, 327
Yep, Built right you can zing'em to the moon. nothing sound more wicked than a high revving 327.

Re: 66, 327
My old red 66 had a factory 327 in it, ran like a top after sitting 15 years. Of course with a little tlc but it was the only year they were put into 1/2 ton pickups in our body style

Re: 66, 327
Hey, 1966Fleetside, is yours the TH400 trans, too? I have the same setup. Is your original exhaust still in place? Would love to see how the exhaust is supposed to look.

Re: 66, 327
Some of the factory correct restoration folks will probably be interested in your pics. There have been various discussions regarding correct engine paint colors.
My truck had a 283, but the previous owner bought/installed a period correct 327. No idea if it was originally a '66 truck engine or from a car, but I know it's a great running engine! Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 66, 327
Love the 327 in my 65 Impala. Wish my truck had one, too!

Re: 66, 327

Re: 66, 327
sodly i belive my tranny is a 350 powerglide, and no the exaust has been changed.not stock anymore sorry.its got dual flowmasters.
|
Re: 66, 327
Turbohydramatic 350 is a 3 speed auto. A powerglide is a 2 speed auto. They are different transmissions. FYI

Re: 66, 327

Re: 66, 327
Great engine. Shut down a Road Runner in the quarter mile drags with the one i had. He was so embarrased he turned off the return gate at the end of the strip and just drove out the front entrance. Unreal low end.

Re: 66, 327
you can just do a Google picture search and then compare to what you have.

Any updates?

Re: 66, 327
How many times does it shift when you take off from a stop. If it shifts only once, then it is a Powerglide. If it shifts twice, then it is likely either a TH350 or a TH400.

Re: 66, 327
I love 327s. To me, they were the best Gen 1 small block that Chevy ever made. When built correctly, they've got a power band that's unreal. I had one with 11:1s, good heads, huge solid cam, and a tunnel ram that would rev like a 2-stroke.
