New accumulator for my 87 won't accept the low pressure valve???

In the process of replacing the entire ac system. Started installing the new accumulator today and it won't accept the low pressure valve from the old accumulator. Both ports accept the switch but not the low pressure piece. Anybody else have this issue? Needs some help on this one.
