frame questions

Hi my name mitch. I resently picked a 3/4 63 chevy truck. I have a 1/2 ton
stepside bed off my old one. I was wondering how much do I need the frame shop cut off the 3/4 ton truck to fit the stepside bed. The 3/4 frame is a lot better than the 1/2 ton frame. Can anyone help or recommend to some one here in Oklahoma thanks for the help

Re: frame questions

You don't need to do anything to mount a 1/2 ton bed onto a 3/4 ton frame, they are the same. Now if your 1/2 ton stepside bed is a short bed, then yes you will need to shorten the frame. You will need to cut 12" out of the frame under the cab, and 8" off of the very end of the frame. There are a few threads on here that show the various ways to accomplish this. I beleve one of them is in the 60-66 FAQ Index.

One thing you do need to look for, is that the '60-'62 frames are wider than the '63 and up frame. So consequently the bed mounting points are wider as well. This can be a small issue when mounting a '60-'62 bed onto a '63+ frame. It can be done though, with a little work.
