whats better/cheaper to buy new or used body parts
im wondering if it would be better to just buy new fenders and doors from lcm or get some from a parts truck an have them sand blasted an repainted? im also concerned about how the lmc parts will fit for gaps?

Re: whats better/cheaper to buy new or used body parts
If you're concerned about gaps, thin metal, and probably very few bolt holes lining up i wouldn't buy lmc. I've said heck with em and rather have used. But that's me, some people have had good luck with them.

Nothing can touch OEM sheetmetal. It is more effort to refurbish used parts, but in the end you wind up with a much more substantial part than buying one from Sumflungdung China.

Yeah oem is best most aftermarket sheet metal is thinner and never fits as good.

Agree with all the above. However used jap crap 'cause I could afford it. Love these trucks but the prices for new oem are crazy. Here in MO rust free is few and far between for used.

Re: whats better/cheaper to buy new or used body parts
We try to stay with used parts whenever possible. They usually are cheaper and fit better.
Many used parts can be fixed with a little welding and body work. Cab corners, rockers and floor pans are some parts we buy new. We have made patch panels for different parts of the floor when a pan is not required. A lot of parts can be bought here on the board in the for sale section. |

I agree with everyone regarding OEM, but....your in Canada where rust free parts are fairly non existent. If it requires a bunch of patch panels to make a good fender, and your not capable of doing the work yourself I would consider Goodmark fenders.
I won't buy from LMC unless I am really need something and they are the only source for that item. Even then I know its a gamble on quality. |

Even stuff like bumpers if you can spend the money have oem ones rechromed.

This hasn't been mentioned but I wouldn't sandblast the used parts unless you have a sandblasting company that really knows how to blast sheet metal. I have seen perfectly straight sheetmetal ruined by someone sandblasting that didn't know what they were doing. Chemical dipping or Soda blasting are a good alternative and won't ruin the metal.
