Question about tubular trailing arms

I posted this in another forum and didn't get any response so wanted to try it here in the suspension forum.

I was looking at my Trailing Arms the other day and was thinking about plating them for a bit more strength (they are over 40 years old afterall lol). And ran across this page http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=387475

I'd like to make a set of tubular Trailing Arms with adjustability on one end. This would make it easier to alter the wheelbase slightly to center the rear wheel.

My question is would 1-3/4 OD x .250 wall x 1.25 ID 1020 DOM Structural Round Steel Tube with a mounting plate be strong enough. I'm actually putting this on a 54 Chevy (yes I know wrong forum but figured I'd get more response over here). I plan to use a stock 5.3/4L60E combo if that makes a difference.

Knowing how nate is he likes to over build things i would say they will handle anything you throw at them.
