Rear Springs

How do you know when you need to replace your rear springs?
I don't know if I should get new ones, or a shackle flip kit, or both.
I want the lift, but do I spend the extra $300 on springs? Will new springs give me the lift witout the flip kit? I tow alot, and it's a 1984. What do you think?

How much you going to lift? A few of the manufactures have heavy duty springs for the rear, usually around 4". I don't tow but I added an add-a-leaf to my rear spring packs did not get much lift but did stiffen up a bit, but when I'm loaded it rides better. If you only want load carrying capacity you could add bags to each side.

Well, I've done a lot of looking around an I think I'm going to go with a 4" suspension lift with 56" springs in the rear. I don't think the name brand is important, they are all pretty much the same. Rough Country, Skyjacker, Hellcreek etc... I think most of the materials are made by the same people, and sold to these companys to put there name on it. If someone can tell me otherwise from experience, please do. I will go with the one I don't have to pay shipping on (local vendor). Thanks for the imput!
