'58 Apache 36 Project

This was a project of my Father's and myself before he passed away.

It is a '58 Chevy Apache 36 Stepside Longbed. Has a 350 V8. 4 Speed manual.
We installed a brand new wiring harness. Polished up the chrome. Replaced all the lights. New exhaust. Runs strong!

Now for some dirty pictures! (Parked outside :whine:)

Welcome.
Looks solid except for the typical rust issues most of them have.
What are your plans?
Kim

Re: '58 Apache 36 Project

Thanks for the welcome Kim and SchrumGMC!

I am still undecided on the future of this thing.
As for now, just repair the body, paint it a silver on black with a gold leafing pinstripe to separate the two colors, and put in a new wood bed.
Possibly in the future I'll drop it down a little and do some nice wheels.
I'll definitely keep this topic updated as I progress! :D

I'll be watching your progress 1-ton of fun! I love these old things! (The link on your build thread is dead by the way so I can't see any of the pictures)
SCHRUMGMC, you should!

Well, after having a bad shudder while test driving it now that it runs, I came to the conclusion that the carrier bearing was bad. Got under and looked at it and saw that the rubber bushing had completely detached from the bearing and the bracket. After getting it taken apart and looked at it, I found out that the bearing had seized. Which had worn a nice grove into the yoke on the drive shaft. So I had the drive shaft rebuilt with all new U-joints, a new carrier bearing, a new yoke, and got it balanced. Installed it, and it runs amazingly smooth!

I think you may have accidentally added an "and" in that last sentence.

we do have our standards :D

Re: '58 Apache 36 Project

I wish the 58 was daily material. But still have a little ways to go before I am comfortable with it's ability to be reliable. Then at that point, I wouldn't want to drive it as a daily. Wear and tear of my daily driving is no good! haha
