cheapest way to make my truck quieter?

Go for some bitumen stuff like peel n seal or other self sticking thick stuff. Additionally I added a layer of heat insulation and a layer of 1/4" undercarpet.

There is a Canadian company that makes something like dynamat called B-quiet. Its cheaper and it works just about as well. Worked on my truck.

Cheapest way to kill the sound?

Toss the keys on the counter and leave them there. (quiet and cheap;))

How much sound are we trying to kill? Flowmasters and turndowns under the truck and trying to make it as quiet as a new Caddy? Wind noise? Nagging other?

Seriously, I used peel and seal type stuff, repaired sheetmetal (includes any cracked welds etc) new weather strip, made sure doors and glass were aligned properly. A lot of little noises can add up to a lot of racket.

I used peal and seal on the '73. Initially, I smelled tar, but over time it did dissipate. (think fresh paved road)
I tip I also read from someone is to stick a chunk inside the outer door skin, it did dampen a lot of the noise from the door.

Basically in my truck, I tried to repair everything I could. Even a torn shifter boot was replaced. New flooring helped a ton. Even putting in a new rubber floor mat instead of carpet was a big help over nothing. I do feel the pain, in that truck, the driver floorboards were 3 layers thick.

Truck wasn't real quiet, then again I wasn't trying for that. But it was far better than what I had. It was good enough that I was dealing with a whistle in the heater when I sold it.

thats exactly what i mean, i know this old trucks never gonna be "quiet" but i want to kill the sound as best i can without breaking the bank

I have used peal and seal on my truck, but I took it off. Actual sound deadener works a whole lot better. Such as the B-quiet I mentioned. Any buytl based rubber with aluminum backing. I noticed a huge difference in sound reduction from the peel and seal and the B-quiet. But to anwser the OP, there really isn't a "cheap" way out on this one. I've calculated it all up, and my single cab needs about $1,000 so be properly "deadened".

You cover the gutted interior in dynamat or b-quiet or something, and then you lay down your foam, then your vinyl, then your carpet. You combine all 3 for the greatest effect. That starts adding up quick. But if you don't do at least the vibration damper stuff (like dynamat) you're not going to get very far. After having used that roofing stuff before (like peel and seal) personally I wouldn't waste my time with it again. Just my opinion.

This is what I will be doing but I think you could probably do it quite a bit cheaper than $1000. I'm hoping to do it for around 300-400.

Cheapest way to make it quiter is not not run it and flinstone it! Gas is too expensive anyways.

$3-$400 is totally doable. in my crew i used 100 sqf of fatmat ($150), 1/8" closed cell foam ($30), & 100 sqf of mass loaded vinyl ($170). firewall to back wall & all 4 doors. also put 3 coats of por 15 on the cab floor ($40)

can i ask is the mass loaded vinyl work as heat shield? or just for sound?

there is many products in ebay and good prices also..

can any one lead us to some thing kill heat and sound with out any smeel or some thing?

Don't forget roof, pillars, and underneath the bottom of the cab and the outside of the firewall. Done with a quality company like Cascade Audio or Sound Deadener Showdown, it gets expensive fast. Most people don't want to stop at just sound, they like to throw down some of that ceramic based lizard skin (or the like) for reduced heat inside the cab as well.

i did do my pillars, but not my roof, no headliner (custom deluxe). another $20-$30 worth of dampner would cover that. putting mlv or sound deadner on the roof would be pretty useless, not a lot of sound hitting your truck from above. the best gains are by making a "tub" of dampner & deadner from the windows down. personaly i would not spray anything under my truck, (second skin, lizard skin, rust proofer, etc.). on a street truck maybe, but not on a 4by. water & mud will eventually get under it. with 3 feet of air under my truck, heat has never been an issue, even with a big block

i found the best gains were doing the doors, rear pillars & cab back wall. seat of the ears test, i'd say i cut noise by about 70% compared to before (absolutely nothin')
