McGauphys rear brake part help
 

Can some please tell me what this clip is that was contained in the hardware packet in the McGauphy's Big Rear Brake Kit. Contained 2 total.

Ahhh! I remember seeing that clip thing in my McGaughys kit too but I can't recall what it was or where it went. It seems like it was a clip to hold the rear brake pads to the caliper.. but I can't be sure.

I can look for you if you'd like but it will be Sat before I am around my truck again. It's at my Pops house.

CC is correct clip to hold the brake pads just like on the fronts.

Is it for the inboard or outboard pad? I don't see how it would work on the inboard pad as the cylinder has a flat surface against the back of the pad.

Any pics you could send my way?

The 'V' part between your fingers in the picture.. that part goes down into the piston itself then clips around the inboard pad to hold it in place.

(the best I can remember at least) I'll see if I can come up with a picture for you.

Here is a pic of the caliper. I still do not see how it works with the flat surface on the piston face mating to the back of the inboard pad. I have always had vehicles with a hollow face led piston in which these retainer clips seated in the piston holding the pad. An I missing something or does my kit have the wrong e-brake calipers? I already had to switch one mounting bracket (one was for the wrong application - packaging error).

There is a circle shaped wire with two small hooks that fits around the piston and clips the back pad to the piston. Kind of a cheap looking piece though.

If anyone can explain how these clips would work on the caliper piston pictured, I would appreciate the info. I don't see how they would fit with the flat faced piston and sure hope my kit isn't packed with wrong components.

Does anyone have pictures of their e-brake calipers that came with the kit that shows the piston (hopefully the same as the one in my kit)?

I think that is different design then the calipers I just used. Mine had a hollow piston I believe in which that "clip" would fit into. Yours looks to be flush. I will have to look tom. to confirm. I definitely don't remember those wire things on mine. I bet they are wrong.

Mine were a hollow piston design too. I think those clips are just part of the normal hardware package. They may have changed the caliper design or something and you just don't need the clips.

Once the pad is in place and the caliper bolted on I would think the pad wouldn't come off.. I think you're fine just installing the calipers as they are and forget you ever saw the mysterious clips.

Just saying.. I don't think you need them a'tall.

How about a pic of the whole caliper and pads supplied? Does it have an intergrated actuated style parking brake? I have this kit too, and my caliper is this style.

That appears to be the same style. Yes it does have the parking brake.

The disk brakes I have ever worked on did have a hollow piston with a clip on the back of the pad. This is a new style for me and I jus couldn't see that clip working.
