HELP with dash cluster removal
I have a 72 jimmy w/o tach and i am trying to remove the cluster. I really don't to screw this up. what all needs to be disconnected from the back? I have removed the speedo cable and the plug to the fuel gauge. I am working on it now. Your help is greatly appreciated
thanks LT |
oil pressure line, wire harness, speedo, screws around the edge of course, headlight and wiper trim rings, wiper knob(set screw) headlight knob(reach up behind dash, on top of switch there is a tiny knob, push down on it while pulling the knob out all the way)
|
Oil presure line. (One time I almost got the
engine pulled with it still connected OOPs) Mike D. |
Pull the knob off the headlight switch by pulling knob all the way out then reaching under dash to top if headlight switch and mash little button to fully remove knob. Remove bezel.
Pull the knob and bezel off wiper switch. Loosen line to oil pressure gauge. Unplug harness plug above oil pressure gauge. Remove piece under steering column (that holds rubber piece to dash panel.) It is also helpful to reach up and unplug the two bulb holders for the turn signal indicators. Unplug speedo. Remove screws holding panel in. Tilt top toward you and pull gently out. |
Can you tell I have had to do this a few times?:p

thanks guys, i am back to the garage.

Two little things to add to the above listing.
1. Disconnect the battery before you pull thehead light switch so you don't come back to a "dead" truck later. 2. DO NOT cross thread the oil line when you re-install. Those are mighty fine threads and it is easy to do just that. Run the line on by hand making sure the threads "feel" right before you tighten. Just my .02 cents worth from experience in the past. |
You can also just reinstall the knob on your lights to turn them off!

I caught the headlight deal. when i took the cluster apart ( i am installing some white overlays) three 2 inch long rubber pieces fell out of the bezel. i didn't see where they were. anyone know? thanks guys

KRUE, surely you can tell me where those rubber bumpers go.
thanks man, LT |
1 goes above speedo between glass and front of case, another goes over fuel gauge, one goes below oil pressure gauge. In other words they go on the corners between glass and case, I guess to cushion glass to keep it from squeaking?
|
Let me know if that looks right. The bumpers should have lines where they go against ridges on case. Make sure they are in before tightening screws to hold case together! (Ask me how I know!)
|
krue hit it on the head with that.
I have left them out and never had any rattles...at least, i was unable to hear any NEW rattles. ;) |
