Byrne's C10 First Build

Hello all:
So I haven’t built alone and haven’t been part of a built in the past 20 years, I’m pretty lucky to have picked up a 69 C10 with a stock 350 / 400 trans for $500. It came with a set of good fenders, passenger side door, after market and rims (goofy aluminum rims sold for $500) and headers. So needless to say I have always love c10’s and I am completely stocked to have this opportunity. I will post some pictures.
Mike

Hello 1972supersb - thanks for your help!

The plan now is to get new rockers and floor pans in. I pre-mutually ordered cab corners and inner and outer rockers thinking the floor was in better shape. I am now going to return the inner rocker and order pan / rocker from brothers.
For the wheel wells I think I will patch sand and spray, all things considered they aren’t that bad. When I pulled and notice the fire wall I realized a decision need to be mad.. How much can I afford and how quick do I want to bring my boys and wife out on the road!
For the fire wall I am going to fab a patch and weld in, since I have fenders I plan on cleaning them up a little and installing.
In the end I want to drop it and keep a clean look, power breaks etc.

More pic's to come !

You certainly have some work ahead of you! It does look like you have a lot of parts still intact, which helps a lot. I actually decided to switch cabs as mine had too much rust in too many places. Best of luck with the build, and all that rust!

Good price! Paperwork is always nice to have. When you get a chance, post a pic of the SPID.

Hello leftybass209, yes a lot of work. last night i pulled the tank and found more rust. I will have to fab replacement panels as i do not want to buy a new floor. Filing in the cab corners looks tricky.

Last night i wanted to remove the cab corners, they had been replaced (rivet and fiber glass). After seeing the rot towards the back of the cab I decided to remove the gas tank.

Here is a pick of my tool box, its about as old as the truck - love it. When i was a kid a great mechanic Ray (Staten Island NY) had the same box - always wanted one (thanks Craig s List!).

Bummer on all that rust! I wish I had came on these boards before I purchased my truck, not knowing a cheap swb fleet is a red flag. Hopefully you can get all that taken care of with minimal headache.

Just noticed where your from, we stayed at the hillside lodge last summer, thankfully for only one night, as we were just passing through. There was some beautiful scenery, but that place looked like it was stuck in the 70's. We also learned real fast that taking a stroll through the woods there wasn't like taking one here in central Ohio. Headed up a path, about 20 yards in front of us, had a black bear pop out, he ran one way, us city slickers ran the other. No black bears in the Columbus metro parks :D

JHT67, very much stuck in the 70's - down in town is starting to catch up. If you pass through again feel free to reach out and I can direct you to a nice please and great food. Most people in my neck of the woods take the 1:30 drive to NYC or Philly! My house backs the Delaware State Forest, love it.
