Brake warning light

I cant get it straight if the ebrake and the brake warning light have anything to do with each other in a 72 c-20.

Some thread seem to mention an ebrake indicator switch mounted above the brake pedal as an OE thing.

I've also seen the FAQ where a guy actually added a switch.

I just took a look all over my ebrake and dont see a switch.
So should there be a a switch on the ebrake?

I "think" i replaced all the bulbs in the dash but I dont get a brake light when starting the truck or when the ebrake is on.

I thought I had seen that light light up at some point previous to putting in a new M/C and prop valve and was hoping to test it.

I've read that I can crack a bleeder and stomp the brake to the floor and it should light the warning light so I will try that soon.

Re: Brake warning light

67-72 chevy trucks never came from the factory with any type light associated with the parking brake
only brake indicator light was for the brake unbalance light from the combination valve or the drum system with the distribution bloick

No E brake light. Brake warning light for brake problems.

The brake warning light should illuminate as you're cranking the engine as a check feature even when there's no problem with the brake system.

If yours doesn't light up when cranking, check to see that the bulb and socket connection are good.

thanks guys. When searching the forum you get all the years and i must have gotten mixed up.

So to be clear. The only way to test the light is to open a bleeder and stomp it so the prop valve switch senses the pressure diff.

Next question. The light should light up when the ignition is in the Start position for our years?
I have the OE ignition switch so I would think it is grounding properly in that position but the light isnt coming on when starting.

With the key in the run position and the wire to the brake balance switch is grounded the bulb will illuminate if you wanted to test it that way. Just disconnect it at the prop or combination valve and jump it to ground. Opening a bleeder is a better test as it actually moves the spool but if there is a question verify the circuit first.

Re: Brake warning light

grounded the wire going to the prop valve and the light comes on.

Plugged the connector back onto the prop valve, started truck and the light comes on :metal: must not have put it on tight or something the other day.

love the easy fixes
thanks guys!
