10 bolt axel vs 12 bolt/sf14 bolt

I have a 86 k10 with a 305/700r4/np208 with a one legged 10 bolt with 3.42's.

I'm looking at getting a 350hp/400ft/lb crate from Carolina machine.

I'll be running 31x10.50 or 33x12.50 for tires and was wondering if I should build my stock 10 bolt or spend the money and do a 6 lug 12 bolt or 6 lug sf 14 bolt .

so far I found a 6 lug 14 bolt semi floater with 3.42's from a 88 3/4 ton chevy on craigslist for 100 bucks.
I'm use to already having a strong axels coming from a 1990 454ss and 1987 camper special crew dually 4x4.

thanks for the help
kevin

14 bolts will be the best option and only slightly heavier.

A 10 or 12 bolt are effectively not much of a difference especially when built up, and neither can be compared to the 14 bolt in terms of strength.

Keep looking most 14 bolt's I find are 4.11.

Depends how your gonna use it and will you run larger tires later on.If it was me 12 bolt the way it is now if you go bigger tires i would use a 14 bolt.If you do use a 14bolt with 33s i would do a shave kit to give you more ground clearance on it.

Not necessary to shave a 14 bolt unless rediculous hard-core wheeling rig. Otherwise it is unnecessary and can weaken housing if not properly performed. Grab that 9.5" 14 bolt from the 88 and don't look back.
