Bar Keeper's Friend
I want to get rid of the surface rust on my chrome trim ... a buddy of mine who does auto detailing told me of a little secret. He uses a powder called Bar Keeper's Friend (similar to ajax, but uses a different active ingredient that is a superior rust remover than most anything on the market and won't damage chrome or paint (oxalic acid), he claims)
Have any of you ever heard of this? |
Re: Bar Keeper's Friend
I've heard of it and even used it on stainless sink once.I have never used it on chrome so don't know how it would affect the finish.

Re: Bar Keeper's Friend
I use it all the time and its great stuff. On the paint hell no though

Re: Bar Keeper's Friend
I might not have been clear ... not USE it on the paint, but if some were to get on the paint while polishing the chrome it wouldn't be harmful. Is that correct?

Re: Bar Keeper's Friend
A balled up piece of aluminum foil simply dipped in water works amazingly well.

Re: Bar Keeper's Friend
000 steel wool is the best I have found, and it works great with minimal elbow grease!

It works great! Use some WD-40 with super fine steel wool and it works wonders. Of course you cannot replace where the rust ate the chrome, but it does work wonders. |
Re: Bar Keeper's Friend
I was going to say aluminum foil works great. So, x2!

I use steel wool too but I use 0000 and rub lightly. Works great. LockDoc |
